Los Angeles – USA – A California jury swiftly cleared Cardi B of assault, battery, emotional distress, and negligence in a high-profile civil case brought by former security guard Emani Ellis. The jury reached a unanimous verdict in under an hour, finding no evidence that the Grammy-winning rapper physically harmed Ellis during their 2018 altercation.
Ellis had accused Cardi B of scratching her face with a fingernail, spitting at her, and using racial slurs—allegations the rapper firmly denied. Cardi B admitted to a tense verbal exchange but insisted she never made physical contact, citing concerns over her privacy during her then-secret pregnancy. The jury sided with her account, ruling unanimously in her favour.
Outside the courthouse, Cardi B pushed back against the lawsuit, calling it frivolous and warning, “If I’m ever dragged into another false claim, I’m going to counter-sue.” She also appealed to fans to avoid harassing Ellis online and expressed a desire to move on with her life.
With this legal challenge resolved, the rapper now turns her attention to her upcoming album, as she looks to close this chapter with affirmation and forward momentum.
