Washington, United States – In a bold move signaling the next chapter of the high‑stakes rivalry between tech billionaires, Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin has announced plans for a massive satellite internet network aimed directly at competing with Elon Musk’s Starlink. The new initiative, called TeraWave, marks Bezos’ formal entry into the booming global satellite internet market, where Musk’s Starlink currently dominates.
According to Blue Origin, TeraWave will deploy around 5,408 satellites in low and medium Earth orbit, with initial launches expected in the fourth quarter of 2027. The network is designed to deliver ultra‑high-speed connectivity of up to 6 terabits per second (Tbps) and will primarily target enterprise clients, governments, and large data centres, positioning itself as a high-performance alternative to consumer-focused Starlink services.
The announcement comes as Starlink continues to expand its reach, boasting nearly 10,000 satellites in orbit and millions of users globally. Experts say that TeraWave’s multi-orbit architecture and enterprise-centric model could give it a competitive edge in sectors requiring reliable, mission-critical connectivity, including cloud infrastructure, remote operations, and government communications.
Blue Origin’s move also signals a broader strategic push toward space-based infrastructure for computing and data transmission, an arena where Bezos and Musk have long competed not just on rockets but on the future of orbital technology. TeraWave is expected to complement Amazon’s Project Kuiper initiative, though it operates under Blue Origin’s aerospace division.
Industry analysts note that this intensified rivalry could reshape global satellite internet dynamics, driving innovation while offering governments and corporations multiple options for high-speed connectivity. As the competition heats up, the race between Bezos and Musk is no longer just about rockets or private space travel — it is now a battle for dominance over the next generation of global internet infrastructure.
