Islamabad – Pakistan has expressed strong hope for an early normalisation of the situation in Iran, firmly rejecting any form of external interference and underscoring the need for restraint and dialogue during deliberations at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Addressing the UNSC session convened to discuss recent developments related to Iran, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations emphasised that the principles of sovereignty, non-intervention and peaceful resolution of disputes remain central to the UN Charter and international law. He noted that unilateral actions, coercive measures or threats of force only serve to escalate tensions and undermine regional stability.
The Pakistani envoy described Iran as a neighbouring and brotherly country with deep historical, cultural and religious ties to Pakistan, stressing that peace and stability in Iran are directly linked to peace and security in the wider region. He said Pakistan is closely monitoring the evolving situation and remains concerned about any developments that could further destabilise the Middle East.
Calling for calm and constructive engagement, the ambassador urged all relevant parties to exercise restraint and prioritise diplomacy over confrontation. He maintained that dialogue, mutual respect and adherence to international norms are the only viable paths toward de-escalation and lasting stability.
Pakistan also reiterated its opposition to external interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states, warning that such actions risk aggravating existing challenges and causing undue suffering for civilian populations. The envoy underlined that sustainable solutions can only emerge through inclusive political processes led by the countries concerned.
The UNSC meeting witnessed differing perspectives among member states, with several delegations highlighting the need to prevent further escalation and avoid actions that could widen regional fault lines. Pakistan, in its statement, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peace, regional cooperation and multilateral efforts aimed at reducing tensions.
Concluding his remarks, the Pakistani representative expressed optimism that prudence and diplomacy would prevail, allowing Iran and the broader region to move toward stability, normalisation and constructive engagement with the international community.
