ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN: The high-profile Toshakhana-2 case against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi has taken a significant turn as a special court summoned two senior army officers to testify. The development follows lengthy cross-examinations of key witnesses inside Adiala Jail, adding new weight to the already politically charged proceedings.
Presiding Judge Shahrukh Arjumand concluded a marathon six-hour session in which the court heard from approver Sohaib Abbasi and former PM’s personal secretary Inam Shah. Following their testimonies, the court ordered Brigadier Muhammad Ahmed, who served as Imran Khan’s military secretary, and Colonel Rehan, the deputy military secretary, to appear at the next hearing. Their statements are expected to shed light on the handling of high-value state gifts at the heart of the case.
The charges revolve around allegations that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi unlawfully retained and undervalued a luxury Bulgari jewellery set, a gift received during a state visit, rather than declaring it to the Toshakhana as required under official rules. Prosecutors argue this caused a direct financial loss to the national exchequer, while the defence maintains the case is politically motivated.
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi both attended the hearing, joined by Imran’s three sisters and senior defence counsel, including Barrister Ali Zafar. The courtroom atmosphere was tense, with supporters and critics closely watching every detail as the trial edges forward.
Legal experts suggest the testimony of the summoned army officers could prove decisive in either substantiating the prosecution’s claims or strengthening the defence’s argument of political victimisation. With the Toshakhana saga remaining in the national spotlight, the upcoming hearing promises to be one of the most crucial moments in the case.
