ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has issued a strongly worded letter to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, criticizing the reported manhandling of former prime minister Imran Khan’s sisters outside Adiala Jail and the repeated denial of court-sanctioned visitation rights.
Afridi stated that despite clear directives from the judiciary, he and Imran Khan’s family have been repeatedly blocked from meeting the PTI founder, describing this as a worrying breach of lawful procedure. He emphasized that his most recent attempt marked the seventh unsuccessful effort to see the incarcerated former premier.
The KP chief minister condemned the police’s “rough and disrespectful” treatment of Imran’s sisters — Aleema, Noreen, and Dr Uzma — who he said were being treated as political protestors rather than family members seeking visitation. Afridi noted that women standing peacefully outside the jail should not face force or humiliation in a democratic setup.
In his letter, Afridi urged Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to ensure that all future visits by Khan’s family and legal representatives occur in a dignified and orderly manner. He also demanded accountability for the officials involved in obstructing lawful visits, calling such actions a matter of “direct institutional concern.”
The letter follows days of tensions outside Adiala Jail, where PTI leaders and supporters continue to claim that the Punjab administration is intentionally blocking access to Imran Khan in violation of court orders.
