Sharjah – UAE – Afghanistan secured an 18-run victory over Pakistan in their T20 International match at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, showcasing a commanding performance in both batting and bowling.
Afghanistan posted a competitive total of 169-5, highlighted by a 113-run partnership between Sediqullah Atal, who scored 64 off 45 balls, and Ibrahim Zadran, who contributed 65 off 45 balls.
Pakistan’s chase faltered early as openers were dismissed cheaply by Fazalhaq Farooqi. Middle-order batsmen failed to capitalize, leaving the team at 75-7. A late surge by Haris Rauf, who scored 34 not out off 16 balls, was insufficient, and Pakistan ended at 151-9.
Afghanistan’s bowlers, including Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, and Mohammad Nabi, maintained tight control, with Nabi taking two wickets for 20 runs. Pakistan’s captain acknowledged the team’s middle-order collapse and the effectiveness of Afghanistan’s spinners.
This victory marks Afghanistan’s second consecutive win in the tri-series, following their triumph over the United Arab Emirates. Both teams now have two wins from three matches. The match underlined Afghanistan’s rising strength in international cricket, while Pakistan will need to address middle-order vulnerabilities to remain competitive.
