TEHRAN, IRAN – Iran has executed two individuals linked to a banned organisation for allegedly targeting key infrastructure sites, in what authorities describe as a major counter-espionage operation.
The pair were convicted by Iran’s Revolutionary Court on charges of “corruption on earth” and collaborating with foreign intelligence agencies, particularly Israel’s Mossad. Iranian officials stated the accused were involved in planning sabotage operations that posed threats to national security and public utilities.
This move comes as Tehran ramps up its internal crackdown, claiming dozens of similar arrests over the past year. At least eight others have been executed in recent months for espionage-related offences, drawing sharp criticism from international rights groups.
Amnesty International and Iran Human Rights have raised alarm over the lack of transparency in trials and the increasing use of capital punishment for politically sensitive charges. Critics argue these executions often follow confessions obtained under duress, without access to proper legal defence.
Iranian authorities, however, maintain that decisive action is necessary to counter “enemy plots” targeting the country’s stability and infrastructure.
