Swat – In a major counterterrorism breakthrough, three key militants affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed during a joint operation conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Swat police in the Barikot area late Friday night.
According to official sources, security forces launched the operation based on credible intelligence regarding the presence of high-profile militants in the region. Upon being challenged, the suspects opened fire, prompting a swift retaliatory response from the security teams. All three terrorists were neutralized in the ensuing gunfight.
The slain militants were identified as:
- Ajmal alias Waqas – a resident of Mangora
- Mateenullah alias Ishaq – hailing from Shangla
- Rahimullah Rehmani – an Afghan national
Officials confirmed that all three individuals were on the wanted list for their involvement in multiple terrorist activities, including attacks on law enforcement and acts of sabotage.
A significant quantity of weapons, ammunition, and explosives was recovered from the hideout, indicating that the group may have been planning a large-scale attack in the region.
This successful operation comes amid renewed efforts by law enforcement agencies to eliminate terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in sensitive areas like Swat, which has seen a resurgence in militant activity in recent years.
The operation is part of an ongoing campaign to restore peace and stability across the province, with officials reaffirming their resolve to uproot militancy and protect civilians from extremist threats.
