In a major escalation of aerial attacks, Russia has claimed that its air defence forces intercepted and destroyed 73 Ukrainian drones overnight, including three aimed at the capital city, Moscow, according to the Russian Ministry of Defence.
The ministry stated that the majority of drones were intercepted over the Bryansk region, near the Ukrainian border. No injuries or significant damage have been reported so far, but authorities have launched inspection operations in areas where debris is believed to have fallen.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed the drone threat to the capital and assured that emergency services are assessing the situation. Meanwhile, three major airports in Moscow — Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky — temporarily suspended operations during the incident as a precautionary measure.
Drone attacks inside Russian territory, particularly near and over Moscow, have become more frequent in recent months, signalling a strategic shift in the ongoing conflict. Ukrainian authorities have not officially commented on the latest drone strike.
This large-scale drone interception follows similar events in the past few weeks, indicating an ongoing intensification of drone warfare between the two countries.
