BANNU – A woman was killed and three children were injured on Wednesday after suspected militants carried out twin quadcopter attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, according to local police.
District Police Officer Saleem Abbas Kulachi confirmed that the first attack targeted a house in the Hoveed area, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to her two children, along with another child from the neighborhood. The children were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Shortly after the first incident, a second quadcopter strike was launched at the Meryan police station, damaging solar panels installed on the rooftop. No casualties were reported in the second attack.
Police officials said that these attacks are part of a growing pattern of drone-based militant activity in the region. The Meryan police station has now been targeted three times in recent weeks, raising concerns over security preparedness and drone defense mechanisms in vulnerable districts.
Security forces have launched a search operation in the area to trace those responsible for the attacks. Authorities suspect that the attacks may be linked to militant groups operating in the region, where the security situation has remained tense following the end of a ceasefire with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The incident highlights the evolving tactics of militant outfits, who are increasingly using commercial drone technologyto carry out low-scale but high-impact strikes on civilian and police targets.
