ISLAMABAD — The government has announced a comprehensive plan to expand operations at Gwadar Port, aiming to transform it into a major regional trade and logistics hub. This move is part of broader efforts to boost Pakistan’s maritime infrastructure and enhance economic activity in Balochistan.
The expansion will include upgrading port facilities, increasing cargo handling capacity, and improving connectivity with road and rail networks. Authorities expect these developments to attract more foreign investment and create thousands of jobs in the region.
Gwadar Port, a key component of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), is strategically positioned to facilitate trade between Central Asia, the Middle East, and South Asia. The government’s plan emphasizes sustainable development and greater involvement of local communities.
Officials also highlighted ongoing collaboration with Chinese partners to ensure timely completion of expansion projects. The enhanced port operations are expected to contribute significantly to Pakistan’s export and import volumes.
