KARACHI – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast continued intermittent rainfall in Karachi till Sunday, accompanied by occasional thunderstorms. The current wet spell has provided relief from the preceding heatwave, but officials have cautioned about possible urban flooding and infrastructure disruptions.
According to the Met Office, the monsoon system continues to influence Sindh’s weather, with Karachi receiving moderate to heavy rainfall in several areas since Friday. The PMD recorded 20mm of rain in Saddar, 15mm in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and 18mm in DHA during the past 24 hours.
Urban Flooding Risk Remains
Authorities have warned of localized urban flooding in low-lying areas due to poor drainage and high rainfall intensity in short bursts. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially during peak rain hours, and to remain alert for power outages.
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) and city administration teams have been deployed in flood-prone areas to manage water drainage and prevent road blockages.
Temperature and Wind Forecast
Daytime temperatures are expected to remain in the range of 30°C to 32°C, with high humidity. Gusty winds may accompany some of the rain spells, particularly in coastal zones, further impacting visibility and commuter safety.
The PMD has advised residents to stay updated through official bulletins and to follow safety protocols during rain-related emergencies.
