ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the setup of a search committee to recommend senior appointments for the Pakistan Digital Authority, a new body aimed at driving the country’s technology and digital policy agenda.
Chaired by IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the committee will also include top officials from the Cabinet, Establishment, and Economic Affairs divisions. Its key task is to shortlist suitable candidates for the PDA’s chairperson and two other top roles, ensuring selections are merit-based.
The PDA, which came into existence under recent legislation, will oversee the rollout of major digital reforms across public and private sectors. Its leadership is expected to tackle the implementation of e-governance projects, improve digital services, and foster a more competitive tech ecosystem.
Setting up this committee is seen as an early milestone in the government’s plan to modernise Pakistan’s digital landscape. According to sources, the panel will finalise its recommendations in the coming weeks before forwarding them to a higher-level review body for final approval.
Once operational, the authority hopes to accelerate digitisation of government processes and position Pakistan to capitalise on emerging tech trends.
