KUALA LUMPUR – Pakistan’s squash players Noor Zaman and Nasir Iqbal secured a silver medal after an intense final at the Asian Doubles Squash Championship in Malaysia.
In a closely contested match, they fought back from an opening-game loss but eventually fell 2-1 (11-9, 5-11, 5-11) to India’s top-seeded pair of Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar. The final lasted more than 85 minutes, with both teams trading long rallies and putting their stamina to the test.
Pakistan’s path to the final had been equally challenging. They outplayed hosts Malaysia in the semi-final, recovering from losing the first game to clinch the next two 11-9, 11-9. Prior to that, they defeated South Korea in the quarter-final and topped their group after a convincing victory over Chinese Taipei.
The silver medal finish underscores Pakistan’s strength in the doubles format and reflects the consistency shown by both Zaman and Iqbal. Noor Zaman, a rising star in the sport, paired effectively with experienced partner Nasir Iqbal, who lent invaluable tactical expertise.
Coach Jahangir Khan praised the pair for their resilience under pressure and believes the tournament will serve as a vital stepping-stone for future competitions.
The team now looks ahead to the next series of international events, where they aim to build on this momentum and challenge for the top podium spots.
