QUETTA, PAKISTAN: In a dramatic rescue operation, 13 stranded fishing boats along with their crew members were safely brought back to shore after being caught in turbulent seas near Ormara, as warnings of Cyclone Shakhti continue to loom over coastal regions.
According to officials from the Balochistan Fisheries Department, the boats had been trapped in deep waters due to high tides and rough conditions triggered by the cyclone’s approach. Thankfully, all crew members were rescued without loss of life. The timely intervention came as part of an emergency response plan activated across the coastal belt.
The provincial government had already issued a high alert advisory urging fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea between October 4 and 6, the period expected to see the storm’s most dangerous impact. Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Haji Barkat Rind, stressed that boat owners must keep their vessels secured until conditions improve.
Fisheries Secretary Tariq Qamar Baloch confirmed that field officers remain on high alert, with support from the Pakistan Navy, Levies Force, and district administrations to monitor developments closely. Authorities have also disseminated warnings through social media, local announcements, and direct communication to ensure that fishing communities remain informed and prepared.
During the operation, heavy machinery and local volunteers joined official rescue teams, using loaders and marine equipment to haul stranded boats out of risky positions. Community participation played a vital role in ensuring the success of the mission, showcasing strong coordination between authorities and residents.
Authorities have once again cautioned the public to stay away from coastal areas during high tides, as the sea remains rough and unpredictable under the storm’s influence. While Cyclone Shakhti is showing signs of weakening, its impact continues to disrupt daily life in vulnerable coastal settlements.
