Attacking right-back Cherundolo is hoping to play an important role in Germany after failing to get off the bench as the USA marched to the quarter-finals at Korea and Japan 2002. He has since established himself as a regular in Bruce Arena's starting line-up and was part of the USA squad that won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2005, although he missed the semi-final and final with a knee injury. The 27-year-old has spent his entire professional career in Germany having joined Hannover 96 straight from college football. He was part of the Hannover team that won promotion to the Bundesliga in 2002 and has since attracted interest from a number of English clubs with his consistent displays in the German top-flight.
