Profile:
A hugely experienced presence at the back for the US, Eddie Pope made his international debut against Trinidad & Tobago all the way back in 1996. Since then has proved himself as one of the mainstays of the side, winning over 75 caps, and will be playing in his third World Cup finals this summer. Widely considered to be one of best defenders in the MLS (indeed some go as far as saying he is the greatest American stopper of all time) Pope was also a part of the US Olympic squad in 1996 during his days at DC United. He now plays his club football for MetroStars and is a determined performer who has that rare balance of skill on the ball and raw aggression. A quiet man off the field, Pope goes about his business with ruthless efficiency and can be relied upon to lead by example.
