KARACHI: Pakistan avenged their earlier 2-5 round robin match defeat from India, after they reversed the scores during the 3rd-4th playoff match in the nine-a-side Super Series International Hockey Tournament in Perth, Australia on Sunday.
Pakistan had lost all of their round robin matches – losing the first one to Australia 4-2, then were defeated 4-2 by England before India thumped them 5-2 in the final round match.
Despite the disappointing round of matches, Pakistan finally managed to pull a victory in the tournament, managing to beat their archrivals 5-2. Rashid Mehmood scored two goals for the victors in the match as Pakistan secured third place. In the final, England had to settle for the silver medal after an early Australian blitz left them chasing the goals in a match that the hosts ultimately won 5-2 despite a spirited second half performance from England.
