While Babar Azam actually had the lead in Pakistan's comfortable 67-run win on Monday in the classic innings (115 runs off 105 balls) and Usman Khan Shinwari's fiery bowling (5-51 in 10 overs). After the opening clash last Friday, ODI rubber, Sri Lanka also presented their moments in the night sky with Shahan Jayasuriya as a great all-rounder.

Dasun Shanaka - looking forward to a three-match Twenty20 International series to be played in Lahore since Saturday after captaining - has become part of left-handed Jayasuriya cricket history making the most of the sixth-wicket partnership. The all-day international added 177 to Sri Lanka as the pair made the previous best stand of 159 - the duo's first name is Chamara - produced by Silva and Kapugedera against the West Indies at Port of Spain on April 2008.

His valor was remarkable in every sense as the top Sri Lankan stars came on the trip, may have found it difficult to make a name for themselves or to join the One-Day-Squad alone. But now both Jayasuriya, who loved Kapugadera 11 years ago, got nervous in the 90s when he gave the Pakistan captain 96 runs for the delivery of Usman Shinwari behind the stumps and Shanaka got a warrant selection in the next two series, at least.

The real positivity in the opening encounter that now loosens the rubber of the two games was Jayasuriya - heavily influenced by the off-spinners' attack as his final analysis of 0-48 after starting the first ODI in Karachi. After a long drawn 3904-day separation of this format, Pakistan's innings with solitary maiden - Shanaka and promising all-rounder Vanindu Hasranga.

Head coach Misbah-ul-Haq has already hit the right note, starting his unique role - both as head coach and head selector - but those who know him intimately will be in despair in the hope that if Hasnain only failed to win his sixth ODI cap at one place, where he wreaked havoc in the Peshawar Zalmi batting lineup last March, including Quetta Gladie The Ters were allowed to become Pakistan Super League champions for the first time.

But a worrying sign for Misbah was Shadab Khan's relentless clash as the young leg-spinner was taken to the cleaners by Jayasuriya and company, which was made clear by figures of 2-76 in 9.5 overs which included 48 runs and six fours.
