KARACHI: Unseeded Sohail Shahzad, Muhammad Jawed, Khurram Agha, Sharjeel Mahmood and Shehram Changezi advanced to the quarter-finals of the Jubilee Insurance National Ranking Snooker Championship on the final day of the league rounds at Karachi Gymkhana Billiards Hall here on Monday.
Khurram defeated Sharjeel 4-2 to secure top spot in Pool D. Sharjeel secured the runner-up spot. Jawed defeated Muhammad Nazeer 4-2 to storm into the knock-out rounds. Similarly Sohail, in his last league match, downed Muhammad Imran 4-1. Out of eight top seeds, 4th seed Muhammad Sajjad, 5th seed Naveen Perwani, 6th seed Abdul Sattar, 7th seeds Vishan Gir and Muhammad Majid failed to qualify for the last eight stage of the championship. Second seed Asjad Iqbal was very impressive with the breaks of 82 and 67 in his 4-0 hammering of Vishan. Asjad topped Pool B with six wins and one defeat. Shehram was the only other player to reach the last eight round from the same group. The real battle for supremacy starts on Tuesday (today) with best of nine frames quarter-finals. Asjad will clash with Sultan, Asif will take on Sharjeel, Sohail will face Shehram and Khurram will face off with Jawed.
