Only two batsmen reached double figures in the innings, with tailenders Mitchell Starc and Xavier Doherty combining for a tenth wicket stand of 29, the only partnership in the innings to reach double figures.

No 11 batsman Doherty was the last man out for 15, while Starc finished on 22 not out.

Australia's previous lowest total in the limited overs format was 70 against England in Birmingham in 1977.

Swing bowler Nuwan Kulasekara was the chief destroyer for Sri Lanka at the Gabba, finishing with figures of five for 22.

End.
