21 June, 2012
KARACHI: Favourite Asjad Iqbal of Punjab and challenger Shahram Changezi of Islamabad booked berths in the final of Jubilee Insurance ranking snooker after winning their semi-finals in different styles here at Karachi Gymkhana on Wednesday.
Shahram Changezi overpowered Khurram Agha by six frames to one in the first semi final but Asjad Iqbal struggled to beat M Asif before winning six frames to four in the second semi final. The final will be played today (Thursday). Khurram H.Agha of Sindh and KPT was expected to test the weaknesses and strength of his opponent from Islamabad. This semi final was expected to be tough and a close affair but Changezi gave no room to the Sindh player and raced to five frames lead before Khurram made a late come back taking the fifth frame making a strong break of 90. However his recovery was too late as Changezi needed just one more frame to clinch victory which he did by taking the sixth frame to stage a come back. Shahram Changezi (Isb) won 79-0 (79), 99-0 (76), 62-30, 60-0, 81-4, 25-112(90), 83-26). The second semi final between Asjad Iqbal and M Asif was more interesting and exciting. After losing the first frame Asif came back strongly and took four frames to two lead over his opponent. But Asjad fiercely retaliated taking last four frames to warp up the contest and winning by six frames to four. It was a remarkable recovery from the favourite of the championship. End. |
