The Governor of Punjab, Salmaan Taseer, was assassinated by his own security guard, a commando of the Punjab Elite Force, in Kohsar Market, F-6/3, Islamabad, on 04 January, 2010.

The Elite Force gunman Mumtaz Qadri opened fire on Governor Salman Taseer when he was about to get into his vehicle after having coffee at a shop located in Kohsar Market. Constable Mumtaz Qadri calmly accepted that he had decided to kill the governor because he believed that the governor had committed blasphemy by rescuing Aasia Bibi from police custody.

  • In your opinion, did Salman Taseer commit Blasphemy?
  • Do you think, there was a conspiracy to topple government as per Babar Awan said?
  • The whole incident needs your esteem and condolence comments...
  • Reader Comments:

No, Taseer was a grat person

Salman Taseer was a hero of human rights. His assassination a political act in guise of religious fanaticism.

    Karim Khan, Pakistan - 02 February, 2011

If someone thinks that the blasphemy law is not islamic or is being misused then it's a matter of his or her opinion. This doesn't mean that he or she is committing a blasphemy.

Islam has taught us tolerance. Declaring a Muslim a Kaafir is utterly wrong not to mention killing him and that too without any judicial authority.

Let's look into our own inside that how much we love, respect, and follow the Prophet of Mercy (peace be upon him) against our own filthy desires - whether of materialism or of religious showoff. Muslims are supposed to be the source of guidance and compassion for the world. Its not worthy of us to judge people's intention. Allah loves humility. And one of the signs of humility is to be aware of our limitation as a human to read the hearts and thus to have good opinion of other people.

We thank Allah for the blessing of Islam and wish this blessing for all human kind, with humbleness and compassion.

Allah is the best of all who judge.

    Condemning Salman's assassination

1)-I do not know the said law in detail; yet can perceive what would it be all about..
Yes he; in my opinion, had a conduct (publicly too) against the Blasphemy law.
I am myself against one such law; so why should I say what he did was wrong? One day; this is going to be the best virtue of Salman..take my word for this!

2)- In the first place why is Babar Awan sure that the govt....has not tried to save itself by using Salman's assassination as a pretext..??
3)-Salman's departure is a sad event for which I submit my condolences to all his loved ones..

    Bigots and Beggars

I knew that our leaders were Beggars with their palms open
and extended towards their mentors. But I was shocked to learn that they were far more
bigger Bigots turning their backs on a Enlightened person
who unfortunately has left a tarnished mark on his Party.

    Khalid Rahim, Pakistan - 07 February, 2011

No one is authorized to kill

Salman Taseer was the man who tried to support the woman who was accused for blasphemy, does it mean he committing blasphemy, what an insult to our religion these so called muslims who think they are the one protecting Islam, they should be hanged, because they are the ones who are spreading hatered about our religion.Who gave this authority to this idiot to kill any one whome he think is a kafir, did any aalim or any Faqeeh gave any Fatwa about this, and now they are making a hero out of this stupid, showering flowers on him they forgot that only Allah almighty can decide about him and i am sure he will be punished for this killing of another muslim.

    What I believe

Salman taseer paid penality of taking law in his own hands. If he let the court to complete his work and trust on the court decision, such thing did not happend.

Amir Mukhtiar Khan, Pakistan - 14 February, 2011

Salman taseer belonged to liberal school of thought like mostly the people in ppp have this ideology,so all they trying to promote this not only taseer, but after the brutal assasination of taseer the ppp leadership are now fright to talk of that issue.

    Trust the court verdict

Mr. Taseer should no way try to mold the court verdict - the person who committed crime should be punished/released by the courts

    Saleem Akhtar, Pakistan - 02 March, 2011

it should be done early coz no said against like that

    Aziz Khan, Pakistan - 07 April, 2011

    Salman Taseer was innocent

religion gives us freedon of speech.Islam gives right to every single person to have his opinion about any matter. !st of all salman did not opposed GOD's words i.e Quran. infact he opposed a law made by us . the and u are not to decide his deed, which was obviously not anti-islamic.This is court's duty. This situation is alrming and very sad to see that majority of the so called muslims opposed him. those so called "aalims' who announced death penalty for taseer will inshallah soon will get the punishment of it.can anybody prove my point wrong ligically?

    hani, Pakistan - 09 April, 2011

    I love Muslims, a Hindu

Hindus love Muslims. Hinduism teaches to make a hindu a better hindu, a muslim a better muslim, a christian a better christian.
I am a hindu, I condemn and hate hindu extremists. 26000 rape cases of Indian women are filed every year in India. I am ashamed of this fact. We are not raping nuns daily & burning them alive. & those hindus doing it i condemn those extremists, they don't even know what Hinduism is all about.

Hinduism is all about tolerance. Different religions are like different paths to reach to the same Almighty. Your Allah & my God are the same being, who we try to reach through different paths. Religion doesn't teach intolerance about other beliefs. A religion is between an individual & his God.
I wish God could come on earth & see, what is being done in his name.
