On November 28, 2010, WikiLeaks stunned the whole World by releasing some leaked cables.

From the latest disclosures, one could observe America’s hubris but its diplomatic machinations and exploits have not been exposed to the fullest extent. On the other hand, disparaging remarks by the heads of state and dignitaries have been highlighted that could lead to animosities and strained relations between the countries.

In fact, there has been selectivity in picking from hundreds and thousands of cables according to their own preferences, fixation and choices. Quoting King Abdullah’s remarks about President Asif Ali Zardari and former’s prompting the US and the West to attack Iran could create bitterness between the countries. The most sinister however, were the efforts to create doubts about Pakistani nukes. Yet the leaks would create diplomatic problems also for America, and add to distrust that already exists between the US and other countries.

  • Should action be taken against wikiLeaks to shut it down?
  • What will be the effect on relationships between countries based on these leaks?
  • Who is the real force behind these leaks? Are they being secertly supported by some seceret agencies?
  • Why these reports mainly highlighted Pakistan`s political leaders, politics, nuclear program and its relationship with muslim countries?

    Expression Information and Freedom

It is all a matter of right of free expression and right of access to information. We see UK spending millions of Pound Sterling on the protection of Salman Rushdie who offended 2 billion Muslims, in the name of protection of freedom of expression. We see the West arguing with China over its curbs on Internet access, and over State Controlled media, in the name of right of access to Information. We are living in Information age, Information is Knowledge, and Knowledge is Power. Wikileakes is using its freedom of expression. People in free societies have a right to know what Wikileakes has to say. It is down to every individual to decide how they interpret, believe, understand and perceive that piece of Information to use it to the best of their advantage.

    Honesty is the best policy

In a country like Bangladesh, Srilanka, india etc Mr. Zardari,Gilani and others can not think of getting a low cadre post in the ministry. As a Pakistani and a human being we should be ashamed that it is more than two years these type internationally known Mr.ten percent is in power.Vickeyleakes has exposed our general and politician in the public. We can only solve our problem by admitting our faults and rectifying it, if we donot admit and expose our corrupt Generals and Politican then we will be a forgotten nation. It appers that Bangladesh understood our generals and politianns long ago and stood against them.

    WikiLeaks - The Positives

    1. Telling or speaking lies may reduce.
    2. People may tend to be less hypocrite.
    3. Fear of getting caught may force or convince some to always speak the truth.
    4. Besides the planned conspiracy theories and sought for objectives humanity MAY too benefit in the form of enhanced transparency all over.

WikiLeaks: The Constitutional Right to Information!

The wikileaks should not be prosecuted. It is agaisnt the right to freedom of information of the General Public. It is a universal right and is in the constitution of almost all the countries.

The leaks do not disclose what is already known amongst the pwople in the corridors of power. So, just because people also know now will not make any difference in the relationships.

They wikileaks may or may not be financed by some secret agency.

Wikileaks has not highlighted only Pakistan related material. Our media has focused on leaks that are realted to Pakistan and other Muslim countries that are important to us.

    WIKILEAKS AND SHARIFS

According to the wikileaks President Asif Ali Zardari told the US Ambassador that that Nawaz Sharif's brother had alerted Lashkar-e-Tayyaba to a possibility of UN sanctions over the Mumbai attacks allowing it to empty bank accounts before the sanctions.

The Lashkar-e-Tayyaba is an extremist or not I am not aware hence I will neither favour or criticize as far as Shahbaz Sharif's said alleged action is concerned. However I have no hesitation in saying that such a move, if it had actually happend, would not surprise me at all knowing well that Sharifs are known for such pre-emptive information leak once that too related to withdrawal from bank accounts. When foreign currency accounts were seized the intents of which were quite appreciative but before its official announcement the Sharifs emptied not only their own foreign currency accounts but also as was alleged in the press then also hinted to elite with the result that the major accounts were almost at nil balance when officially seized. And this was the reason that Nawaz Sharif despite voices never conducted any enquiry about this within day withdrawal of big accounts.
