Muqtada al-Sadr, a young Iraqi Shia cleric, forwarded his four major demands, in the wake of a weeklong skirmishes in and around city of Najaf with the Coalition/Iraqi forces. First, the Coalition should liberate Iraq or at least Najaf, the Shiite holy city. Second, the Iraqi Transitional Government should be replaced with a Shia theocracy. Third, his associates/followers should be set free. Fourth, pardon should be awarded to his militiamen.

A full scale sustained aerial bombardment, and other ground offensives, have been started by the US occupation forces on the Iraqi occupation resistance fighters led by their leader Moqtada Sadr holed up in and around the sacred and holy Imam Ali bin Abu Talib shrine in Najaf.

1- Is there any hope for the peaceful settelment between coaliotion forces and militia ?

2- What would be the consequences of fighting around holy and sacred city of Najaf ?

Reader Comments:

First lets look into the background about Najaf. Najaf become the battle ground because Sistani (The Sign of Allah, Ayotollah) and Sadr were testing each other religious authorities and supremacy amoung Shittes. Sistani is an old coward who is worshiped like god is providing the helping hand to American occupation forces in Iraq as compared to Sadr who has opposed the occupation from the begining. Sadr popularity is soaring which Sistani did not like it all. Sistani who has not left his home in the last six years suddenly decided to go to London for medical reasons (lame excuse). This was the done in consultation with his American allies and the puppet Iraqi government so they can take offensive action against Sadr and his Mehdi Army, it would become difficult for Sistani to remain in Najaf and not to speak against the attacks on Sadr as he would be very much exposed as the American occupation puppet Ayotollah (sign of Allah, to me he is more sign of Bush).

As for the American side it is a well known fact they don't want to see anybody more popular than their puppets Iraqis. Americans fear that Sadr will sweep all independent and fare elections and sure they don't want to give control of Iraq to religious authority. They have invaded occupied Iraq for their own interest which will be doomed with Sadr.

Sadr has given the keys of shrine to Sistani and hopefully his Mehdi Army has some way out to melt into the population. Also keep in mind that Imam Ali Mosque is a very lucrative business venture which yield millions of dollars every year. Sistani and his aides are happy that they got all religious authority and financial benefits.

American occupation army and Bush the mentally sick president of USA got nothing out of Najaf at present as their goal is to kill Sadr on any cost for their contined occupation. Americans never forget nor forgive they will kill Sadr whenever they get the chance.

Man without a Turban

I like the approach of Ayatullah Sistani, as he happend to have said, "Give Goverment to any Iraqi but a man with a Turban"

Ayatuallah Sistani was forcefully lifted by Americans to U.K. without his will, he's lived all his life with a mission. Had he been interested in becoming a puppet of Americans, he would have accepted Saddam as the ruler of Iraq as well, but he rather prefer to live under confinement for so many years under Saddam's regime.

The bottom line is that Muqtada Saddar should not have taken refuge in the Shrine of Imam Ali (a.s.).

We should learn from Imam Hussain (a.s.) that he left Mecca, when he found out that the forces of Yazeed could use violence inside the holy city of Mecca to capture him, so He(a.s.) decided to leave Mecca. In contrast, we see Muqtada sadr is taking refuge inside Imam Ali (a.s.) Mosque, which he should have left the day he decided to oppose Americans.

Its became really imperative when some outsiders comes and occuoy your land and possessions.the war against this aggression is called Freedom fight. All our history we have been ruled like this.People from outside rule us with the help of few Culprits of the nation.Americans stepped into Holy lands of Arabia and an american ally turned into Osama bin laden. Now this time an american invaded Najaf and Mehdi al Sadr was born. The Fight against Might is no easy bussiness.A lot has to be sacrificed to achieve martyedom. That is really victory if not ALL.People like Sistani,Karzai,Mir Jaffar exists but its time when Heros like Sadr are born.He may lose his life or cause but he will leave a mark of loyality to Imam Ali in a land of Unloyals.

AyatBush Al Sistani is a hypocrite and the punishment of an hypocrite is the lowest level of Hell according to Qur'an.

AyatBush Al Sistani silence on atrocities committed by illegal criminal occupation army is something which is very much questionable. He never condemn or said a word aganst occupation forces on Fallujah, Najaf, Sadr City, Anbar, Tikkrit. He never speak against these occupiers who do kill innocent children, women, elderly on the crime of not stoping at check posts. They bombed cities killing and destroying whereever they face resistance.

The argument that AyatBush Al Sistani never accepted Saddam as ruler of Iraq because he heavily handled all the opposition is very debatable issue. The whole occupation and invasion is based on lies and American proganda which paints Saddam as "Evil" and Bush as the "Savior" of mankind. The truth is that Bush is as much or more "Evil" than Saddam who has killed tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis based on his lies. Bush is still killing Iraqis for stabalize their occupation. What is the difference? Saddam crushed opposition by force and American occupation is doing the same to keep them in power in Iraq.

AyatBush Al Sistani is airlifted by Americans can't be confirmed because it seems illogical. If we just assume that they airlifted this hypocrite AyatBush Al Sistani by force. Did they sealed his lips too? Why he and his aides did not condemn what is going on in Najaf? What happened to that red line warning of Najaf? Why he and his aides are so much interested in getting back the keys of shrine? Why they don't issue a statement to Iraqi puppet government and the American illegal occupation forces to stop killing the Iraqi people? Life is more sacred than the bulding and domes. American illegal criminal occupation forces are using their ground forces with air strikes which is killing most very young Iraqi resistance and AyatBush Al Sistani has said not a word to stop them.

PS: Ayatullah means sign of Allah Subhana Wa Taaala. Sistani can't be Ayatullah so AyatBush what he deserves. SIGN of mighty Bush.

American Coalition

American troops are not trying to take over Iraq. I know this because my fiance is in the American Army in Najaf. Trust me, he wants to come home as much as many Iraqis want him to leave, but he knows his job is not finished yet. Trust me when I say that he hates the violence as much as everyone. He puts his life on the line everyday trying to make Iraq a peaceful place. America will not leave Iraq in such turmoil. America does not want to take over the country. I know that some Iraqis don't see it like that but it is the truth. America wants to help the country set up a new, peaceful, government, and then bring our troops home. American's, along with Iraqis brought the Saddam regime down! Saddam will no longer be able to kill hundreds of thousands of people and bury them in mass graves. Yes, innocent people are getting hurt and killed and it makes me sick and breaks my heart, but Iraqis are not the only ones being killed. American soldiers are risking their lives trying to make Iraq a better place, only to have ignorant people try to stand in the way. As an American I can truly say that all we want to do is to help Iraq. If the militia would stop attacking the troops, we could help Iraqi's set up there new government and get out of the country!! American's do not want to control Iraq, we only want to help it become peaceful. In order to do that, the uprisings, like the ones in Sadr city and in Najaf have to stop! These uprisings, by some Iraqis are only causing more needless deaths!

answer to Christy US

I am sorry but I strongly Disagree with you. Which world do you live in? If America is such a peace maker then Why don't they go and restore peace in Sub-Saharan Africa? why are they so concerned about Muslim countries especialy countries with oil resources? Why doesn't America restore peace in Kashmir, Sudan, Nigeria,Cuba, Nicaragua, PALESTINE the list is endless.....! The bottom line is Your country is in Iraq for one and only one reason and that is to get their hands on Iraqi oil... Your goverment has been butchering and will continue to butcher innoncent non-American poeple to control the world resources.. This was evident in 1980s soviet war, when CIA supported warlords in Burma, Thailand and Chinese nationalist and opened Heroin industries.

im sorry

i find it utterely amazing that its all the americians fault i m glad everyone else hands are clean from the fighting. its just those americians that ruin your way of life and keep the quality of your life down right. damn americians its all their fault. if they would have never came everyone would be happy right. its funny how a group that was in power before now complains now that they are not in control. everyone is a puppet of americia right. only if the people who were in power before should keep power forever right without the us taking their land. what new lands have the us acquired please tell me what has the great us taken. i just feel bad that the us is the only country that has tried to help. what has your country done

AYATULLAH BAGHDADI

ayatullah sayed ahmed hasan al baghdadi is the only marja who had the sincerity and dignity to make fatwa against america, calling for jihad,he has muqtadas support, and muqtada has iranian ayatullah kathim haeri support and backing, wich contrary to sistani sheep claims, does give him religious legitimacy to wage war against america.the least sistani could done was say it isnt legitimate for kafir army to sta in muslim land, and in 3 days usa out of iraq.
