In the midst of massive political, economic and social crisis faced by the country, the shocking news of the barbaric incident of burying five women alive in the name of tribal honour in the district Nasirabad, Balochistan, and the subsequent defence of the brutal act as the Baloch tradition in the Senate by Israrullah Zehri and Jan Mohammad Jamali, has made many think that with such a misogynist and criminal mindset of our public representatives, what hope do we have to survive as a nation and pull ourselves out of multiple crises. The response of the senators from Balochistan is a repeat of the response of Ajmal Khattak of the ANP and some other members of the senate who defended the "honour killing" of Samia Imran by her family in 1991 as the Pukhtun tradition.

The way provincial government tried to cover up the incident and manipulated the local administration and the law enforcement agencies because of the alleged involvement of Abdus Sattar Umrani, a brother of Sadiq Umrani, provincial minister of housing shows that there is no hope for justice for the poor and women as long as tribal, feudal and monied classes continue to dominate the social and political structures of our country. Due to the involvement of tribal influential in the gory incident, no FIR was registered. It was only after one and a half month that the Balochistan High Court took a suo moto action and ordered the registration of a FIR.

However, the Quetta High Court has already disposed of the case as DPOs and the local administration denied that any such incidents took place in the area. The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) investigated the case and brought irrefutable evidence to the public attention to prove that this human tragedy did in fact take place. They have already sent the case with all the supporting evidence to the United Nations Court of Human Rights. Our Senate finally passed a resolution to condemn the incident and has set up an inquiry committee to investigate the case. However, no one from the civil society or human rights organisations is invited to be on this committee.

The public uproar regarding the incident and the statements made by the two Baloch Senators, is highly justified. However it is important for us to understand why the male elite in tribal, feudal and sardari cultures is so obsessed with controlling women`s lives and their sexuality. This will help to come up with a more informed and comprehensive response to such incidents.

  • As we know, by means of "Culture" a society is developed and make it different from other societies, by this angle, should we condemn it or not?
  • In this modern era, such criminal acts have cultural value or not?
  • Was it a "Cultural" or "Moral" act?

    One thousand one nights

Mr Cohen is talking of Paks as hippocrite and addressing to me as boundryless erotica story teller.

Well Cohen, I have lived over 40 years in Canada and immigrated from Lahore at the age 22-23 years as very young man.I have lived through very serious as well as very pleasured times in Canada.Even my Canadian friends used to tell me as such:

'Anwar, we are born Canadians and we never had so much pleasured enjoyment as I was having when my world was young."

Don't tell me that Paks only are hippocrites and they do not act on man's laws or God's lawa when it comes to pleasuring on women or vice versa.I want to tell you from my own very experience that the love birds in the west are as much, if not more, hippocrite as our sex starved Paks sans marriage.

How would you Cohen comment on wife swapping, trade for trade, cheating, group molesting and group sex, incest, lying and laying for sexerly preferences, wide spread rapes, milions abortions a year and whatever else that can spice the variegated intrusions into some one else's partner.i would'nt hammer or berate Paks if this isolated and far in between variance from norms has taken place as act.At least Paks have not modified, altered, changed or rearranged the laws of the God and performed the honour killing. Shia Mutah or Sunni misyar would have saved those lives and it is regretably sad to find that it did happen as reported here.

Whether it is the west or the east, there are allways some exceptions who will ignore any laws--man's or Gods for their pleasure sake. Those people exist in America, in Canada, in Pakistan and every where.Exceptions are every where. When I was too young, I mean when I was 22-30 yers of age in Canada, it went all so great and afterwards was not bad either.

I remember when I first came to Canada at age 22, only one hundred people could migrate yearly as immigration quota from most Asian countries to Canada. With even honours degree in chemistry from Government Collehge Lahore, I was still considered lucky to get job in laboratory at the world's largest nickel company(INCO),and I was told that at that time I was the first Asian to get hired in the laboratory of the company that not only produced 90 percent of the world's nickel, but was also the only Canadian company at that time to be listed on the NYSE's world famed Dow Jones Industrials of America's top 30 industries.
I remember being befriended by a young man of my age and he was of Danish origin. He really wanted to be my friend. After a week, he told me that his blue eyed and alabaster white skinned sister of just 18 years old was desperately asking him if she could sleep in bed with tan skinned me as people of my skin were of rare sight in Sudbury city of INCO.Few days later he brought his sis to my apartment and I would leave here also abiguities around the boundary layers of what happened that night. Then, it became on going things and I can tell Mr Cohen that acts of love are above laws in every society in the world. It will be very unfair to say that Only Paks are hippocrite. Most humanity of each nation or culture is hippocrite.Just have fun, but do not kill and do not blame others with indiscriminatory biast picks of chatter boxing and pointing.I remember buying myself Cadillac car of red leather interior and 22 feet long white body that was convertible as open. This car was my gift to myself on my very early job after I got my engineering degree from Canada in 1973.This car was my passport to mate and date girls seeking good pleasured time. Few even wrote their telephone number on my car to call them for good time pleasure.I honestly feel very sad for the Pak girls or women who got burried alive. In Canada or America, these pleasured girls are envied upon in many cases.

Those exceptions exist amongst muslims too and I know some old Lebanese men are marrying very young girls even when they can expect cheating.I know one 75 years old Lebanese man married a very pretty Lebanese girl who was only 18-20 years of age.His other Lebanese old friends teased him about his very young bride's chance of cheating on him.He told all people as such:

'I would be happy to share honey with others instead of eating some old shit alone."

I believe that these were only jokes to create sense of humour.

BUT NO SOCIETY IS PERFECT AND EXCEPTIONS AS WELL AS DEVIANTS EXIST IN EVERY NATION, EVERY RELIGION AND EVERY SOCIETY.

    Anwar Mahmood, Canada - 08 October, 2008
