The Daily Nation, released an image of one of the two suicide bombers who tried to assassinate President Musharraf. The force of the blast detached his face from his head and it flew up and fell of the roof of the nearby police station. He was identified as a bomber from the amount of explosive material on the face.
The image has sent a wave of shock among Pakistanis, who by-and-large, have condemned this attack.
1. What motivates these bombers to accept such mission of suicide attacks ?
2. Are these suicide bombers justified in any form or manifestation ?

It is really on the air that if Taliban like force did find some ground in the government of Pakistan with its devoted manner will win over the masses. For the time Taliban have some drawbacks in their behaviour and rigid manners like banning women to get education and further sticking themselves only upto the madrassas. Other Islamic parties in Pakistan like the Jamiat and Jamat are just like banners that flaps in the direction of the wind. The same Qazi now is ready to welcome Asif Ali Zardari as a legal President.
As far as suicide attacks are concerned that are the outcome of the presence of western forces in Afghanistan and Iraq under the command of United States as their ultimate master. As Pakistan is also the ally of United States in the false compaign of so called war against terrorism so such activities are also carried out as that against the foreign occupation forces.

It has now become evident that Iranian revolution was engineered in the cold war Western Europe to impede the revival of Islam as a political force.
With shias in Iran, the west wanted to stop the influence of Islam by entangling the muslims in a home-grown problem of sectarianism.

I will keep my answers simple and humble.....
The answer to the first question is :- Evil men that are using Islam to promote their own local importance amongst a people who are looking for answers about life and religion are motivating those amongst us who are too easily influenced or dissaffected.
They are teaching their own perverse interpretation of a much loved and respected religion that promotes peace and understanding. (Islam) They are calling themselves important names like Sheik or Prophet and misguiding a youth that should be taught the beauty of a religion not evil. These evil doers live amongst us and promote war and hatred on our behalf.
The answer to the second question is :- No one is justified in taking any other persons life in any religion whether Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Budhism, Judaism or other great teachings. They all teach, love, peace and understanding of faith and hope in eternal life, respect for earthly life.
The answer to the third question is :- Look around the world where atrocities occur and the banners of Islam are flown in triumph by evil doers. Unmask these people for what they are!

Most commentaries are all garden variety, the western secularists denouncing ALL religions, Muslims upholding Sufi forms of Islam, moderates believing in Jihad with spefic nuances in battle only etc. First, it is foolish to think that these suicide bombers are fanatic and irrational or clinically mentally sick. What they do requires a long rational deliberate action that involves planning etc. So how to internalize this behaviour ? Well, its perceptions, meaning in the eyes of these individuals the point has come to where armed struggle should be taken even to the length of self-destruction. How do the bombers rationalize this ? Well, we agree that loss of innocent lives is bad ....right ....why do some people only bemoan the loss of lives done by suicide bombers? Where is the massive wailing to the horrors of Zionism , the state of Israel, Sabra, Shatilla, Hama, chechniya ??? DO we hear such strong condemnations from the alleged secular camp, or the western camp ??? NO ! that doesn't happen now does it ? Must be understood that I am NOT condoning Suicide bombings , however, the reality on the ground is not as simple as " oh these are bad people who hijacked Islam". Justice delayed is justice denied. Still, to give you an example: you just imagine a 30 years old man who has robbed a bank or has committed another heavy crime is trying as a convict at the court to justify his act by saying: “I have had a bad childhood…”. “Experts” like psychiatrists will help him with his way of justification. Do you really think that the guy as a offender in a age of 30 years did not know he committed a crime?? Killing people is a crime! That’s it! It is the “do good approach” of the psychiatrists and politicians which not only helps them to enrich themselves on the costs of fading values in Christian and Islamic societies, their “expertises” are contributing the main contributors. The role of Medias in their greedy hunt for sensations is working in the same way: brainwashing not solving or explaining the root of the loss of our values. But like Agha said from Pakistan( I agree that when a muslim goes out for Jihad, his/her intention is to only fight and if death occurs during fight, then it's Martyrdom. What is the simplest way to solve the Jewish conundrum? And who do you suppose would fix this intractable problem? Forget the Israelis, if you think they can do it. Trouble is "Bush" is so poor in his geography that it borders on stupidity. Look at what he asked of the Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah when the latter met him in April 2002. Abdullah wanted Bush to rein in Ariel Sharon in what Sharon was up to in Palestine. Bush said to him," Why don't you give that swath of land (the West Bank) to Sharon; there is no oil there." If his geography is so poor, how much stupid is he in geopolitics?
Jews will get the West Bank, for sure. But not through the good auspices of Uncle Sam. In fact, Uncle Sam might be caught in a tailspin when the transfer of West Bank gets underway in Palestine. Surprised to hear that? Wait for more surprises and upsets as events go on developing in the Middle East. An eminent Jewish writer, Chaim Bermant, has predicted in his bestseller Book: "The Jews" that the American Jewry is at the ready for an "exodus" from the U.S. Where do you suppose it would end up? Mind you, Jews are not known to get along and this is what Chaim Bermant predicts about them: "Judaism is essentially wholesome and benign, as long as it is distant from power. If there should ever be peace between Jew and Arab, there will be one almighty settling of accounts between Jew and Jew."
There is a whole lot more to tell you about the Jews, but let me close this input on a super optimist note. The Jews have passed the better part of their "exile" under the Arabs and the Ottoman regimes. Their future is intertwined with the Arabs. The solution is win-win proposition; in fact, more in favour of the Palestinians and the immediate Arab states in that the centre of gravity of the world is likely to shift to the Middle East... Shouldn't it be left to the readers' imagination and insight to go on putting the pieces of the story together?

A while ago I was in contactwith a doctor from Swat valley, Pakistan. Loads of young people from this area went to Afghanistan for so called Jihad, and eventually, very few made their way back home...
This man actually explained me that if so many young men left for war it is because they don't have anything for a living at home. no work,no family to raise, nothing. In the West, people blow or hand themselves, or take loads of pills to flee away their unhappy life. Islam is strongly against suicide, so how can they suicide ? Going to jihad or terrorist operation. Best way to end with life and everything going along with it.
Loads of people who are fighting the west are despaired ones who have lost faith in their religion, society, culture, in everything. They are, I think,also victims of these mullah who spread lies and brainwashing.
People should stop to listen the mullahs, because they are ennemies of Islam. Most of them, claiming that they know about Qur'an, spread hate and lies.
There's no perfect society, no perfect human, we all feel about love and hate sometimes in our life. And it is up to OURSELF to choose between love or hate. we are all free to choose.
They are horrible things happening in muslim countries (things against ISlam) and they are horible things hapening as wel in Christian countries (things against christianism), so let's stop spitting at the neighbour's house, because there is no clean house anywhere.

After seeing what is happening with Muslims and the violent stance that they are taking in the name of God, I am beginning to believe that the fundamental Christan right movement in the USA is correct. While being Catholic myself I have always viewed the Christan right as a radical and crazy religon that would have no problem killing in the name of God anyone that does not accept Christ. However I now believe that they are correct in their assumption that Islam is a religon of Satan and its goal is to wipe out Christanity around the globe. I believe George Bush acted for God when the USA invaded Iraq. He is the defender of Christianity in the world and he is spreading the word of God in a Holy War on the people of Satan. Even if it takes 100 years God will prevail against the forces of Satan and his people. We are only starting with Iraq. The rest of the Arab world is next. Now of course I do not really believe what I just wrote. I am just using the same words that the Muslim leaders use. See how silly that sounds when the shoe is on the other foot? It is 2004 not 300 AD. Hey I know, lets ask the Sun God for a good harvest this year. If we are moving backwards in society lets start off on the right foot. The true Islam, the religion of peace is not the Islam practiced by these fanatics. Saudi Arabia, the instigator of this fanatic doctrine is the sole source for this extremist ideology; so I beg you not to associate traditional Muslims (i.e. Pakistanis, Indians, South East Asians, Turks, Africans, ect) with Saudis or Egyptians. The peace-loving Islam of our for-fathers (originally from Saudi Arabia 570 A.D.) has all together left the region of it’s inception and moved elsewhere. Fortunately, one place that did become a strong hold of this traditional Islam was Pakistan. Until recently, extremism was completely foreign to Pakistan/ India.

Religion is the biggest WMD ever invented. When your life is miserable and you live so close to dirt and death you are easy prey for the power hungry. What better power to wield than the promise of eternal salvation/reward/virgin(s)/insert the most tantalizing offer here? When you can convince those who live so low that this life is but a brief breath before the promise of eternal reward they will happily discard it in any fashion you choose! Christians have done it, Jews have done it, Muslims have done it. I think even Buddhists and Hindi have done it too? Does the phrase “Absolute power corrupts absolutely” come to mind? When people like Bin Laden (or the Pope, or insert religious “leader” here) invoke holy wars they separate their followers from their “enemies.” Followers are lifted up as “Gods chosen” and their enemies declassified, devalued, not really human.

Well it is a good day, the evil dictator has finally been captured. However we are still trapped in an open-ended campaign to wipe out terrorists were ever they may be regardless the cost, this attempt is in it’s self a fools errand being inflicted by a foolish, belligerent opportunist who should join Saddam in prison.
So it is said that these suicide bombers are terrorists and that they are animals that must be trapped or smote down with help from GOD almighty now correct me if I’m wrong but it seems to me that if you don’t possess smart bombs and laser guided missiles, attack helicopters, fighter jets and armored vehicles, just what resource could be at your disposal, what could be your finial option? I suppose the sacrifice of human life becomes the finial option, isn’t that what the answer always seems to be? Whether it is with a worthy adversary, or a hoplessly out classed and ill-equipped opponent. We have been willing to sacrifice life, those of our children and those of other people’s children, in the belief that what we are doing is right. And very much so it seems the same, of those who would strap a bomb to their chests to strike a final blow at their enemy. What courage and commitment these poor souls must possess in contrast to our cavalier use of high- Tec remote control, anonymous slaughter.. And sadly enough it seems that even with our mastery of the art of hi-tec warfare the death of innocents as often as not is the cost of our errors.

So while we are busily trying to remake the middle east in our own image and are encountering resistance at every turn, crime is running rampant in the streets, corruption is the order of the day as are random acts of street violence with no end in sight. We might do well to look at that image we are so proud of and not the one through the rose colored glasses that the Bush administration has been selling. A quick look at our own nation’s capital tells the story quite nicely, vice, corruption, random street violence; failing schools and unemployment all abound as well as homelessness and hopelessness. If these matters can’t be dealt with right here at home in the cradle of democracy how can we hope to succeed with our grand vision of imposing our will on countries that would rather we weren’t there at all. It’s time we did the right thing and bring our children home.
The rule of law is what we seem to find lacking in these unenlightened corners of the world and by god we should be the ones to bring it to them. And to our credit we appear to have the most efficient and by all accounts one of the most lucrative corrective institutions in the world. Hell we just lock them up no charges no rights no problem oh yea and no end in sight.

US has supported Indonesian Government and we did not see any East Timorese suicide bomber. Canada and other European countries have good relationship with Sudan and we dont see Sudanese Christians blowing themselves up and killing innocent people. Violence doesn't come from a vacuum
It's often easy to point fingers at the Muslims for the violence they commit with suicide bombers. However, one shouldn't believe that the hatred those bombers feel come from nothing.
The US has supported fascist regimes (including the taliban) whenever it served their corporate interests. It will continue to do so as long as we allow the US to use it's military and not it's political muscle to resolve conflicts in the world.
Do innocent people in Afghanistan or Iraq deserve to die because of the action of a handful of extremists?
Do people in Africa and China deserve to suffer under the AIDS epidemic because the US backs it's own pharmaceutical patents and thereby preventing affordable medicine from reaching these areas?
Do the US's own children deserve to be hungry simply because they were born into the wrong family?

Any 'martydom action' against the enemy in the battlefield is Jihaad and the one who dies is a martyr without disagreement among the classical scholars
The evidence for this is the ayah in the Qur'an where Allah (SWT) says:

There are several kinds of suicide bombers. Some are insane -- cases that were going to kill themselves anyway, so they may as well take others with them and reap some reputation "in memoriam" with their buddies. Some have obsessive disorders - they are so consumed with the "ideal" of the dare aspect of the suicide itself that they completely obscure the reality of the outcomes - a dissociative state that denies the victims/victim potential. Would dumping thousands of pounds of anti-psychotics into their drinking water. Might show results! It's almost impossible to not know the truth about any kind of person with so many "intelligent" people and so much knowledge available. Overpopulated rats turn to homosexuality and cannibalism. Ok, overpopulation. Causes an urge to have less people? But who? Who's gonna go? It's wrong to pick out who's "going". That's where the manipulation comes in. If everyone simply took an R&R, maybe a bit of wage freezing here and there, nobody would have to go. The biggest leverage point is the need for change itself. Every witch, con artist and hoodlum from here to eternity has grabbed onto the concept of the need for grande change across the earth and wedged his/her own agenda into the program. If a person runs into a problem in life, they should ask themselves "how does this problem relate to the overall need for change on earth (that amounts to better stead with the Creator anyways) and try and trace down the path to their own situation. They will find many of these crooks putting obstacles, however small, in their way. A man is in a bad fight with a neighbor - How does this relate to the need for the change from selfish pre-occupations and consumeristic drives to the love of beauty of nature (to which man, in his beloved state, belongs)?
The best way is to remember that the Creator Of The Earth (called Allah, and God)is totally truth-oriented, and whatever the obstacle is, it is either a lie or an ignorance, or an ignorance of a lie (and then deal with the lie). And the balance between preditor and prey, outside of mankind, is not part of the problems of mankind, except in terms of management. Of course a mouse wants to escape a cat. Of course a cat wants to catch a mouse. Many of the lies and manipulations amongst people spring from this basic principle, leveraged against non-human need for mankind to be part of the beauty of nature and love of the Creator's creation. (Love, not abeyance.) When they say "do good for an animal and it will be like good luck for you" it is because animals and birds and bugs, etc., are also created by the Great Creator, Allah, God, and aren't well represented in prayers, because they do not have the verbal acumen. Then steps in the con artist with their "my gestures are the way out for you, you can pray to Allah as your soul desires with gestures, just as He would listen to the deaf, or the infirm," and soon "they" are "saying" all kinds of things they have no intention of saying, and things go awry. It is wrong to mislead an animal also, by the same token, as they say. Does this relate to suicide bombings? What if an animal wants to (legitimately) protest skinnings, if their numbers are getting too few, and scientists know that there are possible extinctions looming? These are the kinds of understandings that can appear to be too obscure for mankind. Does Allah understand? Can the Great Creator, Allah, God...can He understand? No, it is not a question as to whether Allah understands. Of course Allah can understand absolutely everything and anything. It is a question coming from an other-than-human being. Suicide bombers definitely have something to say, but there has to be a way to say it without offending so many people. Mohammed (pbuh) knew. Jesus(pbuh) would agree. But if you're expressing for animal, you may be doing right, but you are not expressing for Allah. And if that animal is made of stone (animals are not made of stone) - you're REALLY in trouble, because you're human and have added death to "worship" and "idols" and you'd better watch out for dogs.

If Islam has not been hijacked by radicals, why are 9 out of 10 radicals in the world Muslims?
Other religious and pseudo-religious ideologies and beliefs (like Christianity and Communism) have their own share of radicals and extremists, but nowhere it is as pronounced as in Islam.
Is the nature of Islam itself to blame?
Probably, yes, but to what degree? I cannot answer that question, and I doubt anyone can.
For the time being, we must concentrate on eliminating the fanatical religious leaders from the equation, it shall bring us closer to a lasting solution. It may also bring us peace, but if not, we can decide on the course of action then.
To all that believe that poverty and unemployment are the cause of suicide bombers - why is the majority of suicide attacks not done by attackers from Sub-Saharan Africa, where poverty is far worse than in the Middle east? Why don't we see more Indian Hindus blowing themselves up? Many of these so-called "martyrs" don't know how good they live compared to them.

Being Agnostic in America (an minority) I find the fanaticism of all these religions scary and stupid. Certainly there's no excuse for somebody who wants to blow somebody else up, but Bush and his right wing radical Christian agenda are only a few notches less extreme in my book. This was the most awful picture I have ever seen. This is sad, what is going on in that country and surrounding countries is sad. I am an African American and we have faced some real hardships over the years in the United States and we still are, but i must say that there isn't any other country were I would rather be! I feel so bad for the people who live in that country nobody deserves to be treated like less than a human being because of their race, creed, color, religion or gender. I just don't understand what would make a person kill themself and innocent people, and then believe that they will be rewarded in heaven for it. The Truth
Sadly, the suicide bombers are warriors who sell their souls for a false promise. There is no paradise for these poor people, no virgins to serve them and nothing waiting for them but the fires of hell and that is truly sad.
Their motivation comes from centuries of hate and jealousy. It's easier to raise a child to hate someone for having something you have always wanted than it is to look inside yourself as a person or nation of people and truly serve God. I'm not saying that everything the U.S. does is good; we have leaders who are not lead by God just as any nation does. But we became great because for centuries we held to the belief “In God We Trust” and for that God truly blessed us and made us strong.
There is no Godly justification for hate and jealousy despite what the Muslim clerics tell these people and the price for their actions will be an eternity in hell. This continued struggle-jihad-holy war has raged for over 1400 years and all it has produced is a path of death and destruction around the world and back again with a goal of dominating the world to prevent any nation from protecting Israel. It does not matter what you call the U.S., or how evil you claim we are, the fact is that if Muslims really want to know the truth about why they are waging jihad against us they will look to the Bible, because everything that is happening is described there by the true prophets of God and it is very different from what you’ve been taught. I hope you can get a Bible wherever you are, because I understand in most Muslim countries they are forbidden. Have you ever asked or even wondered why? Your clerics claim they are shielding you from lies and corruption, but there are no lies in the Bible and it has NOT been corrupted as you've been told. How can they say that a book is corrupt that teaches compassion, peace, hope, love, mercy and forgiveness? Even for our enemies?
That truth is that the Torah and the Bible go hand and hand; one is the fulfillment of the other.
God did say he would make a nation out of the children of Ishmael. He also said that nation would become great, and the Arab nation has become great. The prophets said that once Israel returned to Zion there would be a nation of people making constant war with her and that they would eventually be destroyed by God’s own hand. These are the children of Ishmael and I worry and pray for the souls of each of them. Muslims are taught from birth that the Jewish people of Israel are evil. The Torah and the Bible both teach that the descendants of Isaac (Israel) are God's chosen and that they are who He made his covenant with. God says that all who serve Him are to protect Israel and that all people and nations who make war with Israel will face God's wrath. History has proven these prophecies to be true for thousands of years and they are still being fulfilled today. The protection of Israel that the United States has provided is the reason the descendants of Ishmael hate us. And so all over the world there are young Muslim men, women and even children being convinced that they need to commit themselves to fighting, struggling and making war with Israel and all who protect her. Common sense tells us that that if the Arab Palestinians had truly wanted peace they would have accepted that Jordan truly is Arab Palestine left tiny Israel in peace. If they had done so and given up this centuries old hate and jealousy, Israel would not feel the need to be so heavily armed and so many people would not have died in vain over the past half century. Still these people continue to be convinced to commit suicide for the cause of Islam. And what is the cause of Islam; to defy God and overtake this tiny little country that God has continually blessed and protected.
Please know that all of us are children of God, no matter what you have been taught, no matter what has passed from generation to generation. As a humble servant of God I beg each of you to seek God's Holy presence within yourself. Pray that He will allow you to find and read his word so that you too can see the light of his love and to do his will in the way of peace. Make your struggle one for God’s truth, not for this. Seek Jesus because he said: “If ye abide in my word, then are ye truly my disciples; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” If you believe he will return as the Messiah then you have to know that he already is the Messiah and that he truly died for the sins of all who come to him and accept his salvation. All of this is in the Bible, it is truth and it is the word of God.

Lack of education is core problem in Central Asia
The unrest that continues to erupt in Pakistan and other cental Asian nations is due to a chronic lack of education. Religion and education, like two wheels on a bicycle, need to be kept in balance. Too much religion and no knowledge of international norms, science and history will lead a person to veer off course and crash. Choosing to blow oneself up is surely an example of blind faith and no logic or common sense. It is murder of the self...strictly forbidden in both the Holy Quran and the Holy Bible. Many fanatic religious clerics are a fine example of this. On the other hand, if religion is not considered the human soul can be tempted to travel down the path of crime and corruption.
The bottom line: People in this region need a major infusion of knowledge and support both from within their own nations and by friendly nations who are able to provide it (e.g. UN, EU, US).
In the mean time, when fanatics like this cross the line and choose murder, all we can do is hold the line and enforce the law. They must be tracked down like any other criminal who harms society. Their cause is futile as the human spirit commands respect and dignity that only comes from a political system that is on balance fair and just (e.g. democratic system).
Unless these changes are made, this region will continue to veer off course like a bicycle with a broken wheel.

The principal advantage of blaming someone else - anyone else - for one's own difficulties is that one is excused from having to do anything constructive to solve the problems. It is easier to whine about "oppression" and throw a temper tantrum worthy of a three year-old child.
I see Muslim radicals doing the same thing, even though all their current problems would remain, even if the US, Europe, Australia, India and Israel somehow disappeared overnight.
The lack of economic and industrial modernization in most of the Muslim world is the fault of Muslim governments and business leaders. Even when money is available, as in oil-rich nations, it is not spent building modern industry. The result is unemployed or under-employed young men, and these are dangerously vulnerable to hateful ideologies. The Muslim world could learn a lot from other countries, were it inclined to pay attention. Japan's prosperity in spite of having no natural resources other than an intelligent population willing to work hard heads the list. Iceland is an even more extreme example; just below the arctic circle, no oil or valuable minerals, 100% literacy and a high living standard.
If the current crop of Middle Eastern radicals spent half as much effort working and studying as they expend hating any civilization not their own, they'd have their "golden age" again.
Young Germans seem to have gotten the right idea. The answers to their problems rest inside them, not somewhere in Poland or Russia.

Human Nature
Religion is a sub function of culture. Culture is the necessary social imprinting that is needed to bridge the gap between man and his environment. ‘Right & wrong’ is learnt early in life via relevant teachings in various cultures. Essentially ‘right & wrong’, by itself, is an abstraction that is implemented by various cultures in different ways. As an abstraction, right & wrong cannot be implemented on its own. Therefore, the pure concept of ‘right & wrong’ does not truly exist, except within our teachings since birth, or re-education after initial cultural parameters have been established (e.g. Brainwashing or cultural reform).
Funny how ‘life’ is seemingly cognizant of the fact that human cultural diversity inherently spawns a plethora of socio-destructive influences that permeate over time and culminates in a seething ‘event’ reminiscent of nature’s own life cycle.
As human beings, we are nature’s greatest example of ‘life’. I would go as far as saying that we are nature’s most perfect example of life based on the principles nature itself. We can exist in any environment because of our culture, we can survive earth shattering disasters because of our intelligence, we can do ‘un-natural’ things because of our religion and we can survive any situation because of our diversity.
However everything has an opposite and the laws of statistics prove that given enough iterations, all possible outcomes will be achieved. Hence our culture will cause us to kill ourselves and each other to preserve it, our intelligence will cause us to do this with astonishing efficiency, our religion will make our doings ‘right’ and our diversity will give us the reason to do it.
As a human being, I’m proud of my world culture and history regardless of the bloodshed which is the way of life that we as humans have adopted over centuries of co-existence. I’m proud of my communal culture which has given me the freedom to explore the depths of my own existence without the influence of others who would use the tools of modern-day societies to control the minds of the masses. I’m proud of my own personal culture which has opened my eyes to the underlying truths about life and its true purpose. My own religion which I created and adopted for myself based on life itself.

Blaming America for all of the rest of the world's ills has been an effective opiate for generations now, keeping attention away from the corrupt tyrannies that rule almost all Muslim nations. Same goes for blaming Israel. The (so-called) Americans you see in this forum who are complaining of actions by the US are hiding their agenda - they never complained when Clinton bombed Sudan, or when he did anything. They are stridently anti-Bush, living in some sort of alternate reality. Their spelling and grammar should be instant indicators of which end of the IQ scale they occupy.
Islam is indeed seen as a religion of violence by much of the world. The radical imams, whose followers also tend to be from the bottom end of the IQ scale, have ruined the reputation of Islam all over the world. No one trusts Muslims any longer, to include fellow Muslims. To those who are calling for jihad, how do you like it now that you are being hunted down and killed by the hundreds (or thousands)? The 21st century, like any other before it, is a century of war. But now the war is a war of Information.
The suicide bomber, in his own mind, was doing the most honorable thing. He was giving his life to protect his country and people from being run by a dictator who is at odds with the intentions of his own people (risking a little collateral damage is okay as long as your intended target is good, is what the USA has taught everyone).
That's what he believed. And like it or not, it's not hard to understand his reasoning when I state it like that. Wonder why the USA supports Musharraf? Because the pakistanis, the people, hate the US! they would have supported the taliban, they would never have joined the USA's war on terrorism. Democracy in Pakistan conflicts with Democracy in USA. And for that matter, who wanted Bush in office? Less than half the people. Who wanted wars with Afghanistan and Iraq? again, less than half the people. Once more, the reality is only perception. Democracy achieved in the USA is really Democracy percieved.
Western-style democracy is not the end-all be-all to government and civilization, it can quite easily be corrupted and undermined, as we see right here in the USA. Although some of Europe's parliamentarian systems do better, it's not by much. But just enough that for the first time in THOUSANDS OF YEARS, the intentions of Europe's governments, matches the intentions of their people. If it were up to those in charge, THERE IS NOTHING TO LOSE AND LOTS TO GAIN by joining the USA in pre-emptively attacking countries based on sketchy evidence. But that has not yet happened aside from 1 or 2 nations.
Back to the suicide bomber. The world is no longer what it really is, but what every individual percieves it to be, since there's a zillion incoming avenues of information, appealing to different parts of us.
Islam really, has no fault or blame in this. It's all about the Muslims, not Islam. Islam hasn't changed that much in a millenia and a half. In fact, look at the age of all religions, 1500 years into Christianity, the pope was calling for crusades against the infidel scum who held the holy land and caused HUNDREDS OF YEARS of bloodshed that had no other effect BUT IN THE END EXPOSE WESTERN CIVILIZATION TO ISLAMIC CIVILIZATION.
Now too, you have men like Osama Bin Laden calling on crusades against the tyrannical American infidels based on threats percieved (if all the people in the middle east were united, calm, and able to express themselves, guess what? there would be no problem with the USA. the Americans would either leave the region, or try to conquer everything. simple solutions on either side, peace or war. none of this gray crap), about 1500 years into Islam's history. A major effect is Muslims the world over stepping back and reanalyzing themselves and reanalyzing their relationship with the West (since muslims were pretty well starting to integrate with the West before 9/11).
In the end, I do believe in God, and that things will happen for the best. I believe that eventually, Muslims will re-gain an identity, by returning to the roots of their religion. I can't think of anybody who's read and known history who wouldn't want a billion people on this world sculpting their lives after the prophet Muhammad of Arabia from the 6th Century A.D. That is really the key to get out of it. There is no solution, aside from people to think with their minds properly, know what they themselves want, and when they do that, the only political/religious solution to get rid of the cancer of IGNORANCE AND EXTREMISM is the original religion of Islam, which history has shown worked to great success with their cultures for hundreds of years. During my travels around the world, both as a military dependent and an active military member, I have met many folks of many of the world’s religions and nationalities. However, of the many Muslims I have met, only one has condemned the actions of the "Muslim" suicide bombers. All the others have said the one being attacked may be the blame to all out support with an "anything goes" attitude. As far as I know, in these "modern" times, those of the Islamic religion are the only ones to go to this extreme in the name of their religion. Throughout history wars have been fought in the name of religion, however, I do not know of any religion that has supported its followers to commit suicide, not even the Islamic religion, until recent history.
Muslims seem to be fighting a "religious" or "holy war" against Israel in the name of "Allah," yet I'm not sure the Israeli government has fought or defended it's self in the name of any god or religion.

The common thread between them is that they believe the Western World to be the great evil. We are the White Devil to these people, and this gives them the divine right (or so they believe) to sacrifice themselves in order to further the destruction of our kind. This is not unique; there have been many sects over the years that have gone blindly about their business, as they see it, of achieving whatever goals they have set for themselves.
Is it all on them? Not entirely. The creation of the Jewish state in 1948 was a thorn in the side of the entire Arab world, and their vigorous form of self-defense has never been to the liking of their neighbors. As if matters couldn't be worse, the parties concerned both claim divine right to the land tract in question.
Who really belongs there? That is open to some debate, butm if you ignore the religious nonsense, the bottom line is that there is now, in that place, a modern society. A soceity with modern cities, modern services, and modern infrastructure. This is 2004, and if the Muslim factions are upset with the rise of modernity in the Holy Land, oh well. Get over it. Additionally, I'm not saying that either side have necessarily been right in their handling of the crisis, but I still live with certain principles. The same principles, by the way, that the Holy Bible, the Holy Quran, and the Torah all hold to be true. Three words; MURDER IS WRONG. What these suicide bombers are doing is murder. Not just of soldiers, but of private citizens as well. Before anyone even says it, the actions in Iraq recently stand as the response of the civilized against those who are not. The whole issue, do we belong there, what about friendly fire, what about civilian casualties, etc. Freedom is not cheap, neither for us nor for the Iraqis. I don't agree with the way in which our government decided to justify their assault, but I am glad to see Saddam Hussein removed from power. The man was a maniac, and ruling a multicultural nation as he did is one of the worst cases of oppression in the modern era. He murdered without just cause or care. He is just like all the other terrorists. Granted, George went after him because of a blood feud, but the world is still better without him. Soon, the Iraqis will figure that out.
The bottom line is, he got the ball rolling against the terrorists of the world, as no one before him had ever done. In consideration that terrorism has existed since the late 50's, it's really about time. Now, the nations of Europe and many in Asia are devoted in some way to hunting down and removing terrorist organizations from the face of the earth.
As for the Islamic faith, I personally do not believe in any form of organized religion. I am, however, intensely familiar with subject of religion, having been raised Presbyterian. I feel that it is without doubt true that young Islamic followers are being recruited and used as pawns to commit suicide missions against the innocent. Look at the profiles of these people; both men and women, most with families, under age 30, relatively well educated. You get the idea; get them at a young age, mould them into what we can become. Gee, does that sound familiar? It should. The Branch Davidians, Marshall Herff Applewhite, Jim Jones. We have fanaticism here, too. What do you think the Klu Klux Klan was, a social organization?
The fact is that the vast majority of Muslims in the world support the stoppage of terrorist activity. It is the fanatics and fringes that are responsible for the violence, and this is what the allies are after. Al Quaeda, Abu Sayyef, Egyptian Islamic Jihad, and all the rest of them are suffering disruptions in their plans, as well as the arrest of their top operatives around the world. This is not a game, ladies and gentlemen. This is the United States and a lot of other countries who are saying no to tolerating terror. No one should have to go around in fear that they will be bombed by terrorists, no matter what part of the globe they happen to live in. And don't make the mistake of thinking that this is Christendom/Judaism versus Islam. Murder is murder, any way you view it. All three texts agree, and I agree with that, too. We need to keep our eyes on the ultimate goal, which is the eradication of terrorist groups throughout the world. We will all be better off without them.

It's a lot easier to do this than it is to work hard for 40 years to make one's country a better place. Suicide is a cheat, and worse, because the notion that death absolves one of responsibility is a myth.
Bombers who attack police, military or government targets, and only those targets are guerillas in the classic sense. These targets are permissible in civilized warfare. Those who purposefully murder civilians with their bombs, as most of the Palestinian attacks have done, are terrorists. They aim to cause terror among a civilian population to thereby force a government to change policy, hence the name "terrorism" (yes, the massed carpet-bombings of cities during World War Two, like Rotterdam, Coventry, Dresden, Chungking, Tokyo, Hiroshima were state terrorism.) International humanitarian law forbids these attacks, as did the Hague Convention.
The bombers must ask themselves what sort of country they want to live in. Even if they get their wish, and their government is replaced with a regeime more to their liking, there will inevitably be some who hate the new administration. Is it desireable that the groups not in power always turn to firearms and explosives to get their redress? The country will remain poor forever if that is the case.

I'm an american, which is a title i have to wear with a certain sense of humility, given the way that my country is being represented by the puppet currently in office. I was a servicemember at one point, and I have to say that I support my troops, to a man, but not the orders that they are being given.
I would rather the attacks on New York hadn't happened, but wishes aren't worth a whole lot nowadays. What the majority of the american public seems to have missed is that terrorism isn't a novel thing. For years, I have seen ( though sporadically ) news stories on explosions in a dozen different countries, so why is this suddenly such a dramatic event? Because the public felt invincible. This country hasn't had an act of war committed on its own soil for longer than most can remember, and we got cocky.
I would that nobody had to die in this conflict, unreasonable though that wish might be. Frankly, though, we got our nose bloodied like the playground bully who threw his weight around once too often. Then, our 'leader' begins to bang the war drums and whips the populace into a patriotic fervor.
Sometimes I have to ask myself the question "What if I could end the war today? If I found myself someplace where I could change the whole world with a single action, could I do it?" What if YOU could stop *all* war, around the world with a single action? Could YOU do it? As far as I know, Islam absolutely condemns such attacks in which civilians always become a victim and die. Moreover, even as muslims when we make an intention to go on a Jihad, the objective and intention is always to fight and come back as a successor rather than a pre-planned death. Muslims don't fight in Jihad to die but to have faith in Allah for a success, and in doing so if we die, we consider ourselve martyre. But we never plan our death well in advance by taking a decision to attach bombs with our waist.
No human being has the authority to determine how he/she should die, and especially for us muslims it's clearly mentioned in Quran to have strong faith in Allah (SWT) for the betterment of our lives in this world and hereafter.
