Indian-controlled Kashmir has observed a close down in remembrance of two pro independence leaders mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq and Abdual Gani Lone.

Back in 1990, unidentified gunmen killed Mirwaiz Farooq at his residence on May 21. The event became more horrific when Indian forces opened fire on his funeral procession killing over 50 civilians. Lone was killed during a pro freedom rally on the same day in 2001.
