PESHAWAR: Taliban supreme leader Mulla Muhammad Omar has reiterated his resolve to fight the foreign forces, rejecting any talks offer as an American ploy to prolong what he called the process of colonialism of Afghanistan.

He said this in his felicitation message in connection with Eidul Azha. According to the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP), Taliban spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousuf confirmed the statement of the Taliban chief in which he praised the people of Afghanistan for what he called foiling the American drama by avoiding participation in the American-manipulated elections.

Referring to the contention of some quarters to initiate talks with the Taliban, he said: “Those who occupied our country and took our people hostage wanted to use the trick of negotiation to achieve objectives.”

He added: “If they want solution to the issue, they should put an end to the occupation of Afghanistan. The invading Americans wanted the Mujahideen to surrender under the pretext of the negotiation. This is something impossible.”

AFP adds: Omar’s statement appeared to respond to rising general disgust with the Taliban tactics by calling on “every believing man to avoid causing casualties among the common people.”

“There is no justification under the Sharia law for the murder and injury of common people, nor is there any room for such deed in our sacred religion,” the statement said. “Pay heed to the protection of public and national property during the conduct of military operations, particularly during martyrdom-seeking operations,” he said, referring to suicide bombings. “Focus on the invaders and their lackeys and other important targets.”

End.
