(Quqnoos)-THE TALIBAN have issued a new warning to mobile phone companies – no longer content with forcing phone companies to cut their signals at night, the militants now want them to shut down their networks during the day.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the decision to force phone companies to turn off their signals during the day in the province of Ghazni came from the rebel group’s top leadership on Monday.

The Taliban fear that US-led and NATO-led forces can use the mobile signals to track down and kill their fighters and to launch strikes on their bases.

The deputy governor of Ghazni condemned the Taliban’s order.

But some phone companies in the province say they haven’t received any warning from the Taliban.

Earlier this year, the militants ordered phone companies to turn of their phone signals at night for fear that US-led forces were using the signals to track them down and kill them.

A number of phone masts were blown up by the militants for failing to comply with the order.

End.
