MIRANSHAH:17 army soldiers were killed and 11 sustained injuries near Miranshah the headquarter of North Waziristan while 5 militants were also killed in a gun battle in Mirali.
According to political administration of Miran Shah, the army caravan was ambushed in area of Madakhel near Afghan border when it was on its way to Miranshah from Lowara Mandi area.
The political administration told that the armed men who attacked were hiding in mountains and used heavy arms in the attack.
Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Waheed Arshad while confirming the attack on security forces told that a number of attackers were also killed in the attack. He said that the injured soldiers were brought to military hospital of Bannu where another soldier succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, five militants were killed in a gun battle between security forces and militants in the area of Mirali in Miranshah. DG ISPR has confirmed the incident and told that five militants were also killed.
In another incident, 7 persons including one soldier were injured in a landmine blast and later the firing injured seven persons including a soldier.
An officer of the Political Administration told BBC that the incident was occurred at 8 am on Wednesday when a vehicle of a caravan, hit the landmine near Chashma Bridge in which one soldier was injured. The army after the blast cordoned off the area and started firing on suspected places.
Meanwhile, a suicide bomber who targeted Taliban Commander Maulvi in South Waziristan was arrested. According to a private TV Channel, the members of Peace Committee arrested the suicide bomber in Wana and he (bomber) revealed that he wanted to kill Maulvi Nazeer Ahmed. It may be recalled that earlier, the international media telecasted the news of death of Maulvi Nazeer Ahmed. |
