Manila: The Asian Development Bank (ADB), along with Canada, are assisting the completion of the 103.4 kilometre Kandahar-Spin Boldak Road with a grant of US$12.8 million.

The road begins at Kandahar, Afghanistan's second largest city, situated in the southeastern part of the country, and makes its way to the southeast, through the Hada Hills, ending at the Afghan-Pakistan border town of Spin-Boldak.

Rehabilitation of the road started in October 2002 with a US$30 million grant to Afghanistan from ADB's Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, for reconstruction and improvement works on 61.4 kilometres.

The new grant will be used to restore the remaining 42 kilometres, fuelling employment, trade and commerce in southeast Afghanistan.
