QUETTA: Police have arrested over 400 Afghans on suspicion of having links with the Taliban from Quetta and adjoining areas and are being interrogated, said Inspector General Police Balochistan, Tariq Masud Khosa.
Addressing his maiden press conference following his appointment in Balochistan, Tariq Masud Khosa said that the detained Afghans were suspected of being involved in sabotage activities.
He said that elements involved in bomb blasts, rocket attacks and saboteur activities would be bought to justice.
Tariq Masud said that reforms would be bought in the police department to combat the anti-state elements. He said that three mega projects of police would be completed in the next three years. The projects, he said, included turning Leafy areas into police areas, recruiting ten thousand people in the Balochistan constabulary and establishment of Model force in Gwadar. "The police combating crimes will be reorganized," he added.
The IG said that press would be updated about law and order on monthly basis through its spokesman. "Self respect of the laymen will be restored and Thana culture will be changed," he said adding that corruption and misuse of power in the police department would be controlled. He said that the police department would be provided with basic facilities and meeting pertaining to police department would be held every month.
The IG said that police was confronting the challenges of rocket attacks, terrorism, Al Qaeda, Taliban and Afghan elements involved in terrorist activities. "A major operation will be launched against these menaces," he added.
Tariq Masud said that steps would be taken to control burglaries incidents on national highways.
Foolproof security arrangements would be made during Muharram to avert any untoward incident and sectarian clashes. He said that crime rate was increased 16 percent during the last two years.
He hailed the police performance and said that the police performance had boosted ten percent. He said that the police would not arrest any woman or child without the permission of a high ranking police officer.
