JALALABAD: Television network, broadcasting programmes for two hours, in the eastern Nangarhar province was connected to satellite, officials said.

Addressing a ceremony organised in this regard, Governor of Nangarhar Gul Agha Sherzai voiced his pleasure on the new facility. He also raised finger on that fund granted to television centre was not used properly and even necessary items had not been bought.

He said: "I don’t know, whether the fund has been engulfed by contractor, culture and youth ministry or officials of Nangarhar, as VCR and other equipment have not been purchased." He said amount of $0.4 million was needed for the television centre.

Indian consular general Partab Sing in Jalalabad, Pakistan consular general, head of Radio Television Afghanistan Najibullah Roshan and some other officials were present on this occasion. The new project was funded by India.

Partab Sing said with their help communication would be further developed in Afghanistan. Head of the Culture and Youth Affairs Department in Nangarhar Mohammad Hashim Ghamsherik said that the television network was connected to satellite with Indian fund and technical help by Baseel Company. He said now programmes of the TV could be seen in the entire country and 41 countries.

Engineer Zalmay told this news agency that they broadcasted their own programmes for half an hour and specified the remaining time for the programmes of the central TV.

Hailing the assistance, deputy governor Dr Mohamamd Alam Ishaq Zai said India had strong relation with Afghanistan and such aids would further cement the links.

Engineer Najibullah Roshan, head of Radio Television Afghanistan that balance was not kept in languages in central TV, but steps would be taken in this regard soon.
