KABUL: The Tolo Television, a private TV channel in Afghanistan, has expanded its transmissions to Kandahar City.
Saad Mohseni, director of the channel, said the step was part of their programme to expand the Tolo's transmission to all big cities of the country.
He said their programmes had received warm applause from the people which encouraged them to expand the spare of the transmission to other parts of the country as well.
"Beside the expansion of coverage area, we also want to bring improvement in our programs in accordance with the demands of our audiences," Mohseni told Pajhwok Afghan News.
In a chat, he said their programmes were now reaching more than 13 million people across the country. He said apart from Kandahar, their programmes had been visualising in Kabul, Herat and Mazar-i-Sharif while it would cover the eastern city of Jalalabad within the next two weeks.
A statement issued from the TV station said Tolo TV also broadcasted via satellite across the region, covering Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, India, Gulf States, Turkey, and Central Asia.
The TV channel, started broadcasting in October last, is generally considered as following the American style but Mohseni disagree with the observations pleading they never followed the western style. Rather they trying to follow the Afghan style and promote Afghan culture.
Asked about the widespread criticism from clerics, especially the Ulema Council led by Afghanistan's Chief Justice Fazl Hadi Shinwari, Mohseni said 80 per cent of people were watching the programmes and they liked it. |
