LONDON, May 07 (Online): AGENTS from Britain's MI6 intelligence service will interrogate Abu Faraj Farj al Liby, the high-ranking al Qaeda member captured in Pakistan on Monday, because of his links to potential terrorist sleeper cells in the UK, according to a UK daily.

Al Liby, alleged to be Osama bin Laden's top planner and number three in the terrorist network's hierarchy for the past two years, was yesterday taken to Rawalpindi, a garrison town close to Islamabad.

The Libyan-born terrorist is believed to have been one of the masterminds behind the September 11 suicide attacks on the US in 2001, and is also accused of planning two assassination attempts on President Pervez Musharraf, the Pakistani leader, in 2003.

It is understood that MI6 operatives based at Islamabad's embassy will be joined by interrogators from London for his questioning.

Although al Liby's capture was only announced on Wednesday, he was captured on Monday after a brief siege at a house in Mardan in the north-west frontier province.

He surrendered after special forces threw tear-gas grenades into the building in which he had taken refuge.

End.
