ISLAMABAD: Taking notice of recent reports about emergency landings by PIA flights, President Asif Zardari has directed the officials concerned to conduct a thorough inquiry into these incidents and submit a report within three days.
President's spokesman Senator Farhatullah Babar said that President Zardari while expressing his deep concern and dismay over the recurring reports of emergency landings of the national carrier, mostly due to 'technical reasons', remarked that the first and the foremost responsibility of the managers of any airline was to ensure that the fleet was in perfect condition for the sake of ensuring the safety of the passengers. He said that 'human lives were too precious to take any risk or to overlook any dereliction of duty on part of some people'.
The spokesman said that a London-bound PIA plane on Sunday developed a 'technical fault' forcing it to make an emergency landing at the Quaid-e-Azam International Airport, Karachi.
The spokesman said that besides calling for a detailed report, the president has also called for a meeting to get a comprehensive briefing on the issue.
