Zardari appoints Justice (r) Fakharuddin as CEC

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday assented to the appointment of Justice (r) Fakharuddin G Ibrahim as the chief election commissioner of Pakistan.

Parliamentary Committee on Appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) had agreed with consensus on the nomination of Justice (r) Ibrahim to be appointed the CEC.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs requested the prime minister to advise the president to accord his assent to the said nomination. The assent came on the advice of the prime minister at a special signing ceremony held at the Presidency.
