Young doctors' strike challenged in LHC

LAHORE: Refusal of young doctors to serve in the hospitals and subsequent launch of strike has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.

The petitioner, Advocate Azhar Siddiq, bears the stance that the strike launched by young doctors is against the spirit of fundamental rights and also negates the sanctity of medical profession.

The petitioner requested the court to cancel the licenses of young doctors who are on strike.

If a patient dies due to the strike of young doctors, they should be accused for the death and stern action must be taken against them, the petition says.

According to the petition, it should be investigated whether degrees of the young doctors have been acquired from an accredited educational institution or not.

Meanwhile, the government of Punjab has issued notification according to which each absentee doctor will be sentenced to one-year imprisonment.

According to the notification, medical service will now fall under institutions of people's services and action will be taken against the violators according to the services' rules.

Patients protest against Young Doctors' strike

The patients and their relatives in the provincial capital of Punjab staged protest against the continuous strike of young doctors.

It has been learnt that the patients along with their relatives staged protest in front of the Medical Superintends (MS) offices in several public run hospitals. They raised slogans against the young doctors and termed them as selfish.

They said that doctors who are considered as the 'Masiha' for the poor people, now they left the patients for their own interest. Nowhere, in the world has it happened that the doctors left the patients for their own interests.

The patients strongly criticized on the young doctors and demanded of the government to cancel the degrees of the doctors, as they are not sincere with their profession. They are maligning this noble profession, the relatives added.

They also criticized the government that the provincial government has badly failed to tackle this issue and therefore, the strike is still continued. They chanted slogans against the government.

Talking to the Online, the Paramedics of Teaching Hospitals said that the Outdoor patients are being checked in emergency. While the strike of young doctors is an issue between the doctors and government, adding the hospital administration has nothing to do with it.
