KARACHI: Rangers and FC officials reportedly opened fire on a procession taken out to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Ali (AS) – widely known as Youm-e-Ali (AS).

A witness said when the procession was passing through the Kharadhar area Rangers and FC personnel opened fire on it.

Sources told our sources that the angry mourners shouted slogans against the law enforcers and also pelted the officials with stones and ransacked vehicles. Two people, a policeman and a mourner, were injured in the incident.

Clerics of the Majlis-e-Wahdat Muslimeen condemned the firing incident and claimed that no mourner opened fire on the law enforcers. They said the officials opened fire on the mourners after an exchange of harsh words.

Karachi Commissioner Roshan Ali Shaikh said gunshots were fired by some people when a group of around 800 people was declined to enter the main procession without security check near Light House. The Rangers restored to firing in the air in retaliation.

Moreover, Youm-e-Ali (AS) procession reached Imambargah Hussainian Iranian Kharadar under tight security after witnessing aerial firing by the personnel of law enforcement agencies, including Rangers and Frontier Constabulary at Boltan Market area.

A number of small processions, taken out from different parts of the city, had gathered at Nishter Park to become the part of the central procession, while noted cleric Maulana Shahenshah Hussain Naqvi in his address to mourners highlighted various noble aspects of the life of Hazrat Ali (AS).

He said that Hazrat Ali (AS) was brought up under the shadow of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as is considered the treasure of knowledge and the symbol of tolerance, bravery, generosity and eloquence even today. He played exemplary role in serving the Islam and confronted the enemies of religion and Shariah while shattering the foundations of oppression, brutality and suppression till his martyrdom, he informed.

Maulana Naqvi also condemned genocide of Muslims in Myanmar and demanded of the United Nation, OIC, and human rights organisations to play their due role to stop the brutalities against Muslims. He condemned the American and Israeli conspiracies against the Syrian government and termed that Syria is the bastion of Palestinian resistance.

After the majlis, the central procession of the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (AS) set off from Nishter Park under the leadership of Abu Turab Scouts and passed through Britton Road, Shahrah-e-Khurasan and MA Jinnah Road.
