Working together... By Javed

The meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh resulted in another new start towards better Pakistan-India relations. The political leadership of both countries is quite mature and can maintain the relationship by placing it on the right track.
Addressing the media in New York after the meeting between the two high dignitaries, Indian National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon said that it was a fruitful meeting and that both premiers were of the view that the relationship must go on. I was continuously observing his body language and especially the way that he was responding to the questions by Pakistani journalists. I think Mr Menon was not comfortable with the Pakistani media as he responded to certain questions in a defensive manner. I would like to tell all Indian diplomats and the Indian establishment too that both countries have to come closer at any cost. One cannot change one's neighbours and neither can one live without them. Ultimately both neighbours have to come to the table to talk.
Since Mr Menon is quite the senior diplomat who has served at different levels either in the foreign office or on some other governmental platforms, he should have responded to the Pakistani media much more carefully so that the viewers and journalists of Pakistan could take back a good image of the meeting held between the Pakistan-India premiers. I think this is the time for both countries to normalise their tone in order to maintain a good and long relationship because that is the only way to move forward.
