Woman killed, 2 injured in Kunar mortar fire

ASADABAD/HERAT: A woman was killed and two more civilians were injured when a mortar round allegedly fired by the armed opponents landed in a house in Manogi district of Kunar province yesterday, officials said Sunday (November 04). The mortar shell was fired by the armed opponents during a gunfight with the Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers in Aomar area of Manogi district, the Kunar Governor Syed Fazlullah Wahidi told the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP). The house also sustained damage, he added. The ANA soldiers did not suffer casualties in the gunfight, he said, adding he did not have information about the casualties to the armed opponents. Meanwhile, an ANA media officer Haroon Yousafi told reporters the incident took place when the armed opponents were firing mortars at an ANA unit. He said two women were killed and a man was injured in the incident. The Taliban have not said anything in this regard till filling of this report. Meanwhile, three Afghan civilians were injured when armed motorcyclists hurled hand-grenades at the rural development department in Farah province on Sunday (November 04). "A meeting between the Afghan and foreign officials was in progress at the building when the attack took place," the Farah police chief Aaqa Noor Kaintoos told the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP). The attackers fled the scene, he added. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack till filling of this report. End.
