Woman, children among 4 dead

KANDAHAR: A woman among four persons were killed in a roadside bomb explosion in Mianisheen district of Kandahar province yesterday, an official said Tuesday. A civilian vehicle struck a landmine at approximately 12:00 p.m. (local time) in Miani area, leaving four persons dead, Rozi Khan, administrator of Mianisheen district, Kandahar province, told AIP. He said two children and a woman died on the spot while a young man succumbed to wounds in hospital. The administrator held Taliban responsible for the incident. There was no word by Taliban who rejected similar allegations in the past. Policemen attack Italian troops: Three Afghan policemen turned their weapons against Italian troops in Farah province yesterday, causing no casualties, officials said Tuesday . The Italian troops were conducting operation in Ganjabad area of Balabaluk district when two Afghan National Police (ANP) personnel and a militiaman opened fire on them, the governor of Balabaluk district Syed Muhammad told the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP). The Italian troops did not suffer casualties in the attack, he said, adding the attackers fled the scene. The Taliban yesterday said three policemen attacked Italian troops, killing two and injuring one more. He said the attackers joined the Taliban after the attack. Gunmen kill 1, injure another: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a commission agent and wounded another in western Herat province yesterday, an official said Tuesday. Khaliqullah, head of Herat customs department, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) that gunmen opened fire on the vehicle of a customs agents on Herat-Islam Qala road yesterdays’ evening, killing one and wounding another agent. He said the assailants wanted to kidnapp the customs agents. Spokesman for Herat hospital, Muhammad Rafiqu Sherzai confirmed to Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) that an injured of the incident was brought to them. End.
