Whither humanity... By Aasia

03 December, 2013

Two more women have been disfigured by acid, one when her husband thought she was having illicit relations with another man, and the other when she gave birth to a girl. The latter case is especially horrid: the husband, reportedly, threw the infant into the canal and then threw a jug of acid on his wife because he had wanted a son. Is there no shame in this society? Are there absolutely no values left? Have we dropped so low on the scale of compassion and humanity that we have forgotten how to view others as human beings deserving of love, respect and care?

The government must take strict action and enforce harsh laws to deal with offenders of this nature. Our society must be educated in the fact that the gender of a child is not determined through a woman's womb but the man's DNA. Acid should not be so easily available that any man with a vendetta can purchase it so freely and openly. Where are the vanguards of this society? When will we come out of the Dark Ages?
