Where knowledge is not power... By Shazia

Education is a mess in this country. There are two extremes in this most important part of any society, and it is broken into the education awarded the poor and the very rich. Public, government operated schools are usually reserved for the financially challenged while private school education has become big business for many people who have opened large campuses with state-of-the-art facilities. Government schools are in shoddy condition with teachers too demotivated by lack of decent pay and amenities and the buildings being in worn down condition. The students do not have access to a wide range of literature and are limited in the amount of knowledge they gain. On the other extreme, private schools charge exorbitant fees that only the very privileged can afford. Usually the cost of admission runs into the hundreds of thousands. I implore the government to act on these disparities so that the next generation is not an ignorant one. SHAZIA KHAN
