LAHORE: Former foreign minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri has warned both Pakistan and India that a war could start if serious attention was not given to the issue of water crisis in the region.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, he said that water crisis was a sensitive issue for Pakistan, so India should pay due attention to resolving the issue immediately.
He also expressed concerns over talks between the Indian prime minister and Saudi Arabia’s Shah Abdullah in which they discussed the relationship between India and Pakistan, but did not talk about the dispute on Indian-held Kashmir (IHK) as a core issue between both countries.
Declaring it a failure of the Pakistani government, he said that it was the duty of the government to send a special convoy to Saudi Arabia on the Kashmir issue before the meeting.
Kasuri said that the government was continuing the foreign policies of the previous regime without implementing them in spirit. He rejected the government’s policy on holding negotiations with India and said that Pakistan should avoid begging for them and try to hold talks at an equal level on the Kashmir issue.
Talking about nuclear energy, Kasuri said that Pakistan was not a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as it had not yet signed on it, but Western powers were increasing pressure on Pakistan not to produce electricity through nuclear energy although Pakistan could produce much cheaper electricity through it.
End.
