WB extends $250million assistance

KABUL: World Bank (WB)provided $250 million assistance to Afghanistan for third phase of National Solidarity Programme. Minister for Rural Development Wais Barmak told journalists after signing of agreement hereon Wednesday that thousands of uplift schemes would be completed with the worldbank assistance in the country. He said similarmore international assistance was needed for execution and implementation of upliftschemes under the 3rd phase of National Solidarity Programme (NSP). "There are 65000reconstruction plans in the whole Afghanistan in which 52000 havebeen completed while 13000 are incomplete. Half of the rest of projects wouldbe completed with the $250 million assistance," he said, urging theinternational community to provide them $246 million more assistance. He said the 3rdphase of NSP would be launched in 30000 villages and would be completed in fiveyears. Mustafa Mastoor, deputy finance minister, meanwhile, said of the $250 million assistance, $1.4m would be spent on reconstruction projects. World Bank representative in Afghanistanpledged continued assistance to Afghanistanafter 2014. "We arecommitted to assistance of Afghanistanin reconstruction sector, especialy the national solidarity programme which isa successful programme," he concluded. End.
