WAPDA and corruption... By M. Khan
06 February, 2014
Some time ago, a report appeared in the media disclosing corruption cases against WAPDA to the tune of billions of rupees. The former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had branded WAPDA a 'white elephant' as did the former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, nearly 38 years ago. A period of 38 years is more than sufficient to judge the performance of any government-owned organisation. There have been frequent high level corruption cases in WAPDA for a long time, as reported by the media from time to time, but it is a fact that no one has dared taken action on the allegations.
I hereby appeal to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take a suo motu notice against WAPDA, where corruption of billions of rupees has become a matter of routine and is allowed to happen freely and unhindered. I also suggest to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to form a commission to investigate financial irregularities and corruption in WAPDA.
