Violence erupts in Godhra after trader shot

KARACHI: Violence erupted in Godhra Colony, Sector 11G after a trader was shot and injured here on Monday.

According to police, unidentified pillion riders barged into a shop and opened indiscriminate fire, injuring the owner, Haji Zafar Iqbal. He was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment. Following the incident angry mob took to the streets and pelted the passing vehicles with stones besides burning tyres.

Consequently, all routine and commercial activities in the area were suspended. The mob chanted slogans against the government and law enforcement agencies for not providing the citizens and business community with protection.

Interestingly, the area police was also present at the site throughout the episode but as a silent spectator. According to police, the trader was injured in a robbery attempt.
