Violence claims four more lives in Karachi

KARACHI Four people including a Shia man were killed in separate acts of violence on Saturday, police said. A man belonging to Shia sect was killed near his house in Golimar area within the precincts of Rizvia police station. Station House Officer (SHO) Rashid Haider said that unidentified armed pillion riders opened a volley of bullets on 32-year-old Syed Qamar Raza Naqvi, resultantly he received fatal bullet wounds and died instantly. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities. He said that Qamar worked at a private company. The SHO said that initial investigation suggested that ongoing killing on sectarian grounds was behind the incident. Separately, a man was killed in Ramswami area within the limits of Nabi Bux police station. SHO Abid Hussain Shah said that the 37-year-old Syed Abid Hussain was targeted by armed riders near Ramswami area. As a result, he sustained critical bullet wounds and was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for treatment, where doctors pronounced him dead. The officer said that Abid was the father of four children and lived in Garden area. The motive behind the killing was yet to be ascertained. The strangulated body of a seminary student was found from T ground in FB area within the limits of Jauharabad police station. The police rushed to the site, when informed, and shifted the body to the ASH for an autopsy, where the victim was identified as 21-year-old Ahmed Raza Qadri. The officer said that Raza was the student of Ghausia seminary located in the same area, and also lived in the same vicinity. He said that unidentified culprits first kidnapped him and strangled to death and later they threw the body in the ground. Meanwhile, a stray bullet killed a girl inside her house in Islamia Colony, Orangi Town within the limits of Pirabad police station. SHO Muhammad Shahid Khan said that 14-year-old Zahida Khatoon, daughter of Syed Nazir, was sitting inside her house with other family members when suddenly a stray bullet hit in her forehead, resultantly, she died on the spot.
